Re: ATR - Who are we?

Excellent and interesting post Ogii. Great to hear how people from different countries develop a love of racing and betting. Hope you get the inside information of when the boxer is going to take a dive in the 5th.;) :lol Ginge
In fact i made some connections, thanks to a boxing forum with guys in USA and i have two cases when i get very nice info about the training conditions of some of the fighters. But in fact the most clear indication i get by myself. The funny thing was that i was almost sure of the winning and as it happends in nonUSA movies the bad guy didn't die at the end :) It was before the match for WBA Heavyweight title Nikolay Valuev - Sergey Liakhovich at the beginning of last year. Valuev was strong favorit to win. He was the champ. Liakhovich's kamp decided to stage a training camp in Sofia :) His manager is Bulgarian Ivailo Gotzev. So i spoke with Ivailo unoficialy and he told me that Liakhovich totaly changed his plans, because of an injury of his right sholder. It was very bad injury, they went to a well known specialist in Sofia, but hide the problem with secret. In the official interviews, which i made with Gotzev, Liakhovich himself and his legendary coach Tommy Brooks they all said that Sergey is ok. I attent in one of the trainings session to make some preparation shots, because the TV, where i comment my boxing shows, brought the rights of the match and latter we broadcasted it. So during this training session Liakhovich looked awful, his sparing partner saves him and i saw great problems for Sergey. I was so sure that Sergey will not last 12 rounds. Made huge bet on very nice odds for Valuev by KO, something of 4.50 (Valuev by decision was somesort of 1.40 and just Valuev win maybe 1.20, not so sure with the numbers). The most interesting part was that i made live comment of the entire show and waited Valuev to KO Liakhovich, who threw for the entire match not more then 4-5 right hands :) During the break between maybe 6-7 round Brooks just asked Sergey - do you want to stop the match? And Sergey said - no i will fight or somesort :) yeah, was very tough words for my soul :) However Sergey continued to get a lot of shots, didnt comeback, but lasted until the end :) So this is the conclusion of the inside info. However it was value bet and i am happy to play my money on it :)

Re: ATR - Who are we? Hi my name is Chris im 20 years old. Only recently got into horse racing (spring 2008). I used to go to the dogs with my dad and still do which I used to love, started using online bettin sites when i was about 16 just betting on football, always remember going round my grandparents on saturdays and he always had the racing on. Then last spring decided to venture into a bookies and start having a dabble myself on the horses and now absolutely love it. Tend to pick most of my winners up from flat/all weather racing althought do have some luck on national hunt aswell. I dont bet silly I do it because I love studying the forum so normally stick to 10p lucky15's, toteplacepots, 1.00 singles or 50p e/w's And have had some nice pickups from these so cant complain and its most enjoyable!

:welcome Chris, we are a friendly bunch on here, take a look around read the rules which explain where to post, what to post etc. All opinions are greatfully received we just ask for a bit of reasoning rather than just posting the name of the horse etc Good time to join up with Cheltenham on the horizon, see our seperate thread for the festival this year.

:welcome to PL Chris!! One quick question- how did you go about betting on what I would assume legal bookmaking sites when you were only 16? :\ Is it a case of your dad just having to be a bit more careful where he leaves his cards!? :tongue2

Re: ATR - Who are we? Wow. All the time I've been coming on this site, and I have never ever seen this thread!! I'm Chris, 24, from Bradford. Grew up going to school with 'Fintron', and he's one of my best mates. He was the one who told me about this site. I think I may have been one of the people who first got him into gambling, I was a bit ahead of my time!! Always had to get my dad to put my footie accas on when i was still at school and stuff. Football is my biggest passion, grew up playing and watching, and it's still my top sport and always will be. However, I am extremely passionate about Horse Racing, just love it in general. Everything about it, it's 'mystique', it's class, everything. The first horse that really captured my imagination was Ouija Board. That horse got me enthraulled in the sport. Definitely more of a flat boy than a jumps boy, but like watching the big jumps races. I find this site full of tremendous information, and it's good to talk racing with like-minded people. I spend many a phone call discussing racing with Fintron, trying to find a big price winner or a short price accumulator. Wizzkid Walter comes from part of my name and part of my online poker name. Online Poker is another of my passions, though don't play as much as I used to, which is a bit of a shame because it gets me in a bit of money. Main site i used to play on was pacific, but looking at playing somewhere new now. Consider myself to be a terrific heads-up player, and really enjoy the game in general.

Re: ATR - Who are we? Nice one 'Walter', interesting stuff. Get yourself involved in one of our Poker competitions soon, we have a Monday night one at the minute, exclusive to PL members, this one lasts just 4 weeks but theres always plenty of them knocking about and another mini season will start soon, only 5 euro buy in and plenty of added value. http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/f17/pl-exclusive-league-devilfish-poker-starts-february-23rd-80457/

Re: ATR - Who are we? To be honest i play on Betfair nearly all the time, coz thats where my cash is and i'm not a fan of having loads of different accounts all over the place. The poker guys play everywhere but obviously Stan James is popular at the moment as they are sponsoring a good deal of stuff on the PL at the moment. I think Poker Stars is one most of them play at nowadays, have a look at the poker section, loads of stuff. They have focus games and each player gets a rating over several tourneys each month. I dont play much as i used to but have got involved this time round, the PL also arranges free rolls and special tourneys too, worth keeping an eye on. BH

Re: ATR - Who are we? Nice one TC; I remember Pasternak oh so well, it will go down as the worst day in my ten years with Hills, we were going 10/1 early price, the shop i ran was a big one and opened up an hour before our rivals, our prices were guaranteed until 10.15 and I was on my own for the first hour. I never moved from opening up, taking bet after bet on Pasternak at 10's. We restricted it to £25 a bet but the canny ones just got other people to come in with their money. I layed it for a solid 75 minutes, at 10.15 it was 4/1 but the damage was done. The shop lost thousands that day, even more than when Dettori had his 7 winners, (only lost 25k that day in my shop). Great days though, funny how you only remember the good wins as a backer and the awful losses as a layer!

Re: ATR - Who are we? My name is Mark and Ive been into Horse Racing since later 80s when my cousin David Myers got me in many a betting shop following him round putting his bets on, we have always been close and I found I had all this knowledge from Dave, listening to him go on in the betting shops when all Id be interested in was going out on the Saturday night, Dave would be sorting his winners out in the bookies, so I got to know draw bias, stiff tracks, trends, jockeys, all the stats etc etc. Dave had a massive passion for the game and eventually got himself into the Racing Post where he worked alongside Henry Rix, Phil Logan, Mel Collier, Emily Webber, Tom Segal and the guv'nor(to us) Mark Coton and they named him Stat Dave as he knew off the top of his head draw bias, big race dates etc etc. He has gone on to do well at Racing Ahead magazine, The Winning Line, Ladbrokes, and now with the Guardian and the RFO, he has written a good few books on the game most recently Racing Trends Revealed, over the years I got to meet most of the guys he worked with and went with Dave to Phil Logans wedding where he had a celebration at the Ayr Gold Cup, Dave tipped up Grey Kingdom for the Silver Cup at 33-1(think Phil got 50s on the Tote) to those that would listen, then Rixy followed up with Grangeville in the Gold. I once made chilli con carne for Mark Coton and Emily Webber when Dave lived with me and met Mark a few times most recently at Daves wedding where I was best man, where I also met Tony Paley and Chris Cook who is works alongside now. Enough of the name dropping haha I got a love for the game from them years and many gambles Dave put us on including Hard to Figure, Wildwood Flower, Superior Premium, Deep Space in the Wokingham to name but a few, Figure probably has to be the most memorable. I also pulled a few off on my own most notably Borderlescott in the Stewards and Fayr Jag in the Wokes. I got to be a fairly decent paddock judge over the years trying to get an angle going racing with Dave on his superior knowledge, supposed it helped being round horses alot when I was younger as my sister has owned, ridden and loves them. Been lurking on here for a while and you all seem a good group of lads and lasses, I normally post on another forum but its gone a bit quiet recently so I thought Id find somewhere else to put my ramblings. p.s I was also on Pasternak that day Im sure that was a Rixy Gamble, was funny as the horse looked half asleep in the paddock...relaxed!

Re: ATR - Who are we? Thought I may as well introduce myself, especially as I've been posting a fair bit recently. I'm Josh, turned 18 in December and am from York. Although have been gambling a bit for about a year, mainly on Football though mind, until the back end of last year, when converted to Horse Racing. Don't get to York Races that much really, seen as though most of my family are actually anti-gambling... My dad abhors it and my mum isn't too keen either, so I'm the first in the family so to speak! Think over the current year I'm slightly in profit with my Horse Racing betting. Had a bit of a losing streak earlier in the year but that changed dramatically when Cheltenham came around. Backed Punjabi at 28/1 and Kayf Aramis that was 26/1 at the time and that paid my losses off in 3 days! Also paid for my holiday this year which was obviously quite nice. Definitely prefer National Hunt to the flat, been to Wetherby a couple of times I think and it started from there! Off to University in September, hopefully to the big smoke itself to study Law. That's of course if I get the grades, which will of course be a struggle. Hopefully won't find myself in too much debt and can supplement any income I get down there with some profits from the Horses, in theory anyway! Hopefully will be keeping the thread I've set up going to show how I'm doing, and perhaps even give the odd tip! :lol

Re: ATR - Who are we? Suprised to see I haven't introduced myself before, how rude.. I'm SWFC_Naps, or Tommy to my friends. I started gambling through my uncle, when I was approx 14 I was in our local (on cordial I might add) and put £5 in a pint pot where all the regulars had chosen a horse in some jumps race. I still remember the horse today - Glentorans View. 25/1 shot and it romped home - I won what was a fortune to me at that age at the time. I then used to go and put a few quid on Alex Hammonds tips on a Saturday and have a £1 acca on the football. As I got older (legal betting age!) I started to take more of an interest in the horses and online punting seemed to claw me in. I've spent many years as what you'd call a mug punter - no inside knowledge or real knowledge of the things that matter, just throwing good money after bad on RP tips and football accas etc. After realising I was more or less throwing money away, I had a self imposed exile of a year or so, before coming back with a lot more discipline and methodical approach. I came onto this site over a year ago, I first was pointed here by a fellow Sheff Wed fan who goes by the username of djslutmonkey. I originally didn't do too badly in the BBOTD tables, although I only had about 10 selections I was showing a slight profit. However reading the threads and seeing the systems really woke me up. I didn't have the time needed to crunch the numbers and form, so stopped posting in here and kept to putting tips in the Championship thread on Sheffield Wednesday, as you can see from the sig I didn't do too badly over the year for such an unpredictable side!! I'm an office worker for a major financial sector company, but I'm off at the moment for a few months after a back operation, meaning I now have time to put the required concentration in to make a small profit. I'm into laying horses mostly, but usually pick one to back each day and I seem to be reading the form quite well at the moment, with my BBOTD figures reading 6/5, 7/4, 12/1 and 2/1 winners and a 100% rate thus far. I've set myself a target of making around £50 per day profit from a bank of £200 in my betfair account which is also going well at the moment. This is strictly from laying, and its giving me a purpose and stopping me splurging money in the boozer while I'm off. Next year I'll be going to Nottingham Trent Uni to do a sports science degree, as I'm already a qualified FA coach. Hopefully this will get me lots more time to really find my own niche with regards to systems and finding what I'm good at. At the moment it seems to be 2 and 3 YO races on the turf that I'm really hitting the success in. I'm by no means a know it all, get excited when my own tips win, am always looking to the regular posters to pick up bits and bobs of how other people see form and I suppose just keeping it to low stakes and low returns until I feel like I actually have a bit of a clue what I'm doing! Always happy to answer any questions and in the coming weeks and months, I'm sure I'll be asking a few. Thanks.
