morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Marcel Luske Eliminated Marcel Luske is the first player to bust out of today's £2,500 HORSE event. Luske started out with () against Gus Hansen's (x-x) . Luske ended up with two pair, Aces and Fives, and lost to Gus Hansen's Queen-high diamond flush. morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Andy Black Eliminated Andy Black was among the short stacks for most of the day. He could not improve on his situation and headed to the rail after being eliminated. It was bad enough that Black's tournament life was over, but he was also busted in the middle of a massage. Massage over. Black out.
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Tired Cowboy Doyle Brunson has been spotted napping at random times during the first two levels. Several of the Las Vegas pros flew in at the last minute and are faced with jet lag and adjusting to the new time zone. Brunson is among those unfortunate souls. The £2,500 HORSE event is going to be a marathon spread out over three days. Brunson is taking advantage of the slow action during the early levels to catch up on sleep before he needs to expend his energy for an old-fashioned gun fight. morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates The Latest From the Top-Floor Card Room Fierce UK player Ben Grundy has just come upstairs, he was telling Richard Ashby that he is purposely sitting out of the Razz level on his table because he "sucks at razz big time" (his words). Howard Lederer was near elimination about 40 minutes ago but has impressively got his stack back up from 3000 to 10,000. EPT champ Andreas Hoivold is not faring so well; he is on 3000 and doesn't seem to be able to hit a flop to save his life at the moment. Dan Shak is STILL on the phone, buy low, sell high. Presumably whatever shares he is dealing in might be a little more lucrative than the £2500 he bought in with. Ted Forrest is doing well at his table, he lost a few big pots earlier but still has around 14,000.
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Stud to the Left of me, Hold'em to the Right With the yellow counters signifying the hands left until game change (eight a round) moving at greatly varying rates on different tables, it's possible to see every game in the H.O.R.S.E catalogue being played at once in the Empire Casino card room. Andy Bloch, playing Stud, just scooped in a big pot peppered with orange 1k chips from Phil Hellmuth. I only saw the chips being shovelled towards Bloch, and rather than ask a spectator what had happened, it was only a matter of time before Hellmuth told the table all about it. "You got lucky. You hit the miracle Six. What you gonna do?" he asked himself, continuing to mutter about how when he bets people always think he's on a draw. It appears that some Kings in the hole figured in this pot loss. No reply from tablemates Jennifer Harman, Jeff Madsen et al., but someone shouted from next door, "How many bracelets at that table?" No reply from Phil Hellmuth, but Tony G offers, "Phil can count up to eleven, no more."
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Dan Shak Won't be Coming Back (Until the Next Event) All that time spent on the phone may have been his undoing, because Dan Shak is out. He fell at the hands of Vegard Nygaard who is now sitting on about 19,000. On Life Support On a trip around the downstairs room we spotted three notable short stacks: Todd Brunson: 2,100 Michael Mizrachi: 1,100 Tony G:
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates So... What Game is This? There is an apparent H.O.R.S.E. rookie seated over on Robert Mizrachi's table. As a razz hand reached fourth street, the man looked a bit confused and looked to Mizrachi for a bit of assistance. Rookie: So... this is eight or better? Mizrachi: No, it's razz. Rookie: How does that one go? Various players: Low hand/make the worst hand possible/stud low... Rookie: Is a flush bad? Mizrachi: No, it's not deuce-to-seven. Rookie: OK, then. Call.

morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Doing Swimmingly A battle of the English-speaking nations saw Ted Forrest (US), Richard Gryko (UK) and Donnacha O'Dea (Ireland) lock horns in a Razz hand. A bet of 600 from Donnacha, a call from Forrest, and a re-raise to Gryko led to Donnacha moving virtually all- in and Forrest swiftly moving out of the way. Naturally, Gryko called, and it was on their backs. By the end of the hand, it was the former Olympic swimmer and former bracelet winner who survived for a double through, his enough to fend off Gryko's . As a result, the Irishman is as happy as Larry, whoever Larry might be.
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Eli Elezra Enjoys the Razz A couple of nice pots for Elezra, including a strange three-way one with Farzad Bonyadi and Torstein Iversen which got to sixth street with the table like so: Elezra (X-X) Bonyadi (X-X) Iversen (X-X) A check round for the final card and when it was dealt one bet from Elezra was enough to see off the other two. "Show off a bluff!" encourages Bonyadi. Elezra adds the 9c to his visible cards...

Average chips - 11,100 Vegard Nygaard is out in front Vegard Nygaard, a player from Oslo, has slowly and quietly taken the chip lead. He is sat at the same table as early leader Richard Ashby, who has dropped a few chips with Nygaard being the benefactor. Annie Duke and Howard Lederer are now at adjacent tables and are sitting back to back. morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Bright As a Button Remarkably, one player that we have missed thus far is JJ Hazan. I say remarkably, because like NPL victor Peter Gould, JJ is renowned for his brightly coloured shirts, the pattern of which are more reminiscent of my curtains at home than anything you'd expect to see in a clothes store. Either way, JJ, who final tabled in last year's Amsterdam Master Classics, was just spotted raking in a nice pot. I didn't quite catch the hand, but he was happy to lean over and reveal his 17,100 chip stack. JJ will probably require every inch of the form that he displayed in Amsterdam, as he's currently the meat in a pro sandwich with Antonius and Lederer to his left and Gordon to his right. A doddle I say!

morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Penguin In A Microwave Two third generation stars cross swords with a veteran Elvis impersonator (not too many of them in poker!) as Bruce 'Elvis' Atkinson, Jon 'Pearljammer' Turner and Richard 'I need a nickname so I don't feel left out' Ashby tangle in a pot of Omaha. The action started with Ashby flat calling in late position, followed by Turner (button) and Atkinson (big blind). Flop = Everyone checked round to Turner whose 300 bet was called by both players, before the same happened on the turn. This time only Ashby called, and the dealer dealt out the final card, the {Tc}. Both players checked with Turner taking it down with leaving the once chip leader and his about as happy as penguin in a microwave
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates 4 Ladies in the Field of 105 Of the 105 players that entered today's tournament only 4 are women: Annie Duke (U.S.A.), Jennifer Harman (U.S.A.), Barbara Lewis (U.S.A.), and Francine Brandler (U.K.) Duke and Harman, as you all know are WSOP bracelet winners-- Harman with two in limit hold'em and no-limit deuce-to-seven single draw and Duke with one in Omaha 8-or-better. Barbara Lewis had a terrific WSOP this summer with four cashes in four of the forms of poker in the rotation today-- limit hold'em, razz, seven-card stud, and seven-card stud 8 or better. Francine Brandler is a local player and was eliminated in the early levels of play today. The only recorded cash we can find for her is a 5th place finish in a £40 tournament. morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Well-Read With free copies of "Bluff Magazine" floating around the cardroom, and with the Day 1 action in these limit tournaments sometimes being staggeringly boring, a lot of the players have taken to reading up on some strategy -- oftentimes written by fellow players in the tournament. As action was about to start, I walked by Justin Bonomo and noticed him reading 'Establishing a Tight Table Image' by Allen Cunningham. Knowing of Justin's aggressive style and reputation, I leaned down and told him "Justin, I don't think it's gonna work." Justin (in the three seat) laughed and replied, "Yeah, but there's another reason to read it," and nodded his head across the table -- Allen Cunningham was in the six seat
morlspin
Re: WSOPe £2500 H.O.R.S.E live updates Omaha/8 -- sorry for the ambiguity of the title -- it meant that he was scooped, losing a little chunk of his 22K stack... The Hendon Mobster found himself in a three-way pot with Kirk Morrison and Per Erik Loeff, all three of them coming along for the ride on a flop of (in-position Morrison betting). A fourth player had reached the flop, perilously short-stacked Bruno Fitoussi, who thought for a while before deciding that this was not the hand on which to commit his remaining 1,600 chips. The turn: . Now Kirk Morrison bet when it was checked to him (800) and got just one player calling: Small blind Boatman. The river brought the and again Barny Boatman check-called a bet, showing . "I don't have a low..." advised Morrison. "I knew I didn't like that ace," he said as Kirk Morrison's took the whole lot anyway.
