naissx
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 Liverpool and Arsenal look good odds though it might be wise to wait for the group stage. I don't think Sevilla are seeded which would create a group of death for someone.
DJ
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 I don't think Man U will win for same reasons they didn't last year, defensively unstable. I don't rate Ferdinand as highly as others seem to and he keeps showing me why. Rio's concentration levels at times seem to be lacking and his passing seems to have deteriorated or he's trying too much with his passing. I might be wrong but I'm sure I have seen more wayward passes lately. Add in the fact that under Rio and Vidic there is not a lot of real cover and when the tough times hit them they'll concede. If you now add in the fact that Man U seem to struggle against any team that makes them work ie Reading, you will see that they have a number of weak spots. With Rooney out they lack a bit upfront, one of those who can make a real difference in group stage. Tevez is there but who knows how Tevez will play in Champions League as he has never experienced that level of football. I think they lack a real out and out scorer who can take them to the next level and unless they sign a 30 goal a season striker then they have no chance. Chelsea too I doubt will win, they have a more resolute defence than Manchester United but I think at times that can lack that bit of novelty with their attacks. They often play too narrow in midfield and don't really test opposition full backs. It's why Lampard seems to play better in a Chelsea shirt than and England shirt, because he gets more of the ball. They seem to oft play an attack of hoof to Drogba and hope he does something or alternatively play a simple lay back to Lampard who eyes up his chances from outside the area before shooting. To this end I feel that Malouda and Wright-Phillips may help but only if used effectively. I believe that Joe Cole is a great midfielder but likes cutting in all too often which does nothing to help the width of the team. Finally at right full back they have a weak spot which does not appear to have been fully addressed. Belletti is a good signing but whether he is the answer only time will tell. Arsenal flatter to deceive too often, playing beautiful passing football but too often with no end product. With Lehmann in goal they have a weak link as has been proved with a number of key mistakes so far this season. I don't believe he's comfortable with crosses, set pieces and seems to have a dodgy temperament. I too believe they have too little central defensive cover Gallas and Toure are a great pair but behind them, who? So I can see them making quarter finals maybe but no further. Liverpool I believe will be the best English team again as they have a solid defence and can concede few goals. In Reina they have a great penalty stopping keeper who can make the difference at the end of those tight ties. With Torres, they have a striker who has shown great pace which will help with their counter attacking brand of football. They also have 3 superb central midfielders in Sissokko, Alonso and Gerrard. Gerrard now freed up will make a big difference when fit in attacking. Again they have a lack of real cover at centre back but I believe they are different to Arsenal and Man U in this, in that they have a more defensively minded central midfield partnership who will come to the rescue at crucial times. They have proved they are capable of strong results in the past and I believe they could be there or thereabouts again this season. I think I will have a nibble on them at those odds as think they are most likely English team to be successful in this competition this season. 2hcb
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 gone for a couple of outrights here at long odds from Coral. Regular contenders a few years back and they still have the nucleus of that squad around. The least talked about of the Spanish sides which might help them and they should end up concentrating on just tis competition. They have the flair players in Joaquin and David Villa to worry any opposition. Their group is not the toughest so I think they are worth a go at these odds. Valencia (e/w) @ 28/1 Ok this one looks a bit crazy and it's obviously very small stakes. Everybody struggles going to play in Russia though and with a blend of Russian organization and Brazilian flair including ofcourse Vagner Love. I think they stand a decent chance of getting past PSV and into the knockouts. From then on anything can happen, just ask Porto and Monaco. CSKA Moscow (e/w) @ 150/

Falbrav
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 Inter Milan look the bet for me. Good price at around 9/1 and have a good, solid team that are capable of beating anybody. They look good to get to the semi finals at least, then maybe we can lay off a bit, as by then they may be the favourite's if al pans out well. impressivegol
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 ok mates, we are halfway through the round of 16 and my local bookie has odds up for Champions League winner after the first leg results. there is one price which makes me scratch my head because it screams of value for me. and I must take it, after all anything can happen in this tournament and the team is a talented one. what also makes this bet attractive is the success of the first leg. still work to do in the second leg but I must: ROMA to win CL 27/1 - not much made of Roma's domestic form because of the dominance by Inter. But Roma sit second in Serie A and have only lost 3 matches out of 24. (winning 15) - real madrid have been struggling. having lost 4 of 5 and Roma is more than capable of netting an away goal or two at the Bernabeu. - provided they get by the second leg, they will be in the final eight. One of those eight teams will be Fennerbache/Seville, and another one will be Schalke/Porto. These are the teams i believe that should have long odds such as above, not Roma. - Totti will only be getting healthier as he is not even 100% right now playing with minor knacks. anyone agree/disagree with me? comments appreciated. :cheers

alexmac
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 Ok then guys... I am sitting on an ante-post slip for Chelsea to win the CL. Have got 7/1. Havn't go a huge amount on it, but it would be enough to buy myself a PS3 if they win... Thing is, I don't think they will win. I really fancy Utd to do it. What is everyones advise...? Should I sit it out with the 7/1 on Chelsea...? Should I put a bet on Utd staking all potential winnings from the Chelsea bet...? Or should I bet half the amount on a Utd win, thus locking in some profit... Thoughts please guys!

I mean with chelsea now priced at around evens, you could probably lay them on betfair to guarantee a profit. Dunno how much you've staked or how much profit you are looking for so cant say how to go about it, but if I were you I would defo be looking into laying chelsea so you guarantee a profit ESPECIALLY if you think they'll get beat. He will most likely be up against Ashley Cole, who has a terrific record when playing Ronaldo. I'm not questioning that he is an exceptional player, but he generally hasn't performed that well against Chelsea or in the biggest European games for Man Utd. I really hope he has a blinder and puts all these questions to bed, but to say that "undoubtedly" he will play well is a little presumptuous. I have to say that I see this game being too close to call results wise - so if I back any 90 minute result it will probably be the draw. Jonesy Knows
Re: Champions League Winner - 2007/8 Interesting stat on Ronaldo: played against Chelsea 12 times and scored 0 played against Arsenal 12 times and scored 4 played against Liverpool 8 times and scored 1 (in the infamous last game where Mascherano was sent off) Ronaldo never plays well against the top 3 teams and especially Chelsea and Liverpool. I do agree with all Chelsea's injuries Man Utd should win!

That way if the match finishes as a draw you win and with the potential to win twice if Chelsea then win in extra time or penalties. Whereas if Manchester United win in 90 minutes, you win because you've laid Chelsea. As has been said look to see how much profit you want to win, then use that calculator and see how things stand for you. All the best!
