Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Suisse Open Some of the big names have pulled out of this leaving Davydenko quite rightly as the favourite for the event. However, the man in form at the moment is Gasquet having just reached the Wimbledon semis. Anyone who saw his quarter against Roddick will know what a sensational player this guy can be. He's got a trickyish half of the draw and will have to get past Youznhy on the way to the final but with his confidence sky high, I reckon he'll repeat last year's performance when he won this tournament. Odds of 5/1 at B365 are more than generous and I've taken him each way to reach the final, probably against Davydenko.

Tip Detail
Sport Tennis
Event Campbell's Hall Of Fame
Selection Kiefer to win (1/2 - First 2) (Each-Way)
Strength 7/10
Date 09/07/2007
Bookmaker/Price Skybet @ 5.00 (Back)
Reasoning Nicolas Kiefer has just started to come back from and injury and played well at Wimbledon to progress as far as he did considering he was not match fit. He is currently ranked in the 400's, but is on his way back to the top 20 within the next year and will definatly go close to his career best ranking of 4 if he continues to play well. He got knocked out of Wimbledon by world number 3 Novak Djokovic in a tight math where he took the 3rd set and eventually lost it in a 4th.
Tip Detail
Sport Tennis
Event R Stepanek vs M Cilic
Selection M Cilic
Strength 10/10
Date 09/07/2007
Bookmaker/Price Bet365 @ 2.75 (Back)
Reasoning Marin Cilic played well on the grass at Queens and I think that he is an emerging player who will want to break into the top 100 quickly and hopefully by the end of this week. Wheras I watched Stepanek at Queens, on the grass which should have been his best surface, but he was largly disappointing against Andy Roddick and his serve and volley tactics rarely worked. I think that he is heading in the wrong direction on the rankings, but I think that Cilic is heading the right way and will soon be a top 50 player. This is there first ever meeting, but I think that youth will prevail over expierience.
Tip Detail
Sport Tennis
Event J Niemienen vs O Rochus
Selection O Rochus
Strength 10/10
Date 09/07/2007
Bookmaker/Price BetDirect @ 3.50 (Back)
Reasoning Oliver Rochus is not a bad player and will be trying to climb his way back up the rankings as he has been sliding down them in the past few years. I think Nieminen showed he was a good player at Wimbledon, but I think he ios inconsistent and could be caught out by a hungry Rochus. H2H is 4:3 in favour of O Rochus and he won there most recent encounter in 2007, on hard courts in NZ.
Tip Detail
Sport Tennis
Event T Gabashvili vs R Karanusic
Selection Gabashvili
Strength 10/10
Date 09/07/2007
Bookmaker/Price Ladbrokes @ 1.66 (Back)
Reasoning Gabashvili is a decent player who has been unlucky with his draws this year. He has not done too well as he has met decent top 50 players in opening rounds in many tournaments and I think that at Wimbledon he played very well in the first round against the great Roger Federer. I dont know much about Karanusic, but I think that he will not be as good as Gabashvili as he is ranked 89 places above him and is not that prominent on the ATP circuit. H2H is 1:0 in favour of Karanusic, but this was 3 years ago.

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Hi guys, following picks for today and tomorrow: ATP TOUR, BASTAD, HERNANDEZ TO D JOHANSSON @ 1.5 at interwetten ATP TOUR, CAMPBELL’S AT NEWPORT SPADEA TO D GIMELSTOB @ 1.67 at sportingodds / sportingbet Johansson will just make too many errors against a very consistent Hernandez. Hernandez had a very good clay court season with 35-13 winning clay court record, while Johansson has just one win in his last six matches. Gimelstob is out of form throughout the 2007 season (his ranking dropped to 155). Gimelstob’s main weapon is his serve and Spadea has such a good return of serve. The H2H is 4-1 to Spadea (Spadea retiring in another match) with Spadea winning the last 2 matches.

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Wesley Moodie vs Thiago Alves - Alves to win - 5/1 Wesley Moodie is a player who is good on grass and has a big serve and who serves and volleys which is the traditional grass court play. But as I was searching through seeing if he would be a good banker, I saw that Thiago Alves was near 2 places higher than him in the rankings and has recently beaten World number 20 Carlos Moya on clay, so should be a decent player whatever surface and could be in with a shout. h2h is 0:O = this is there first meeting and I think that it is a lot closer than it is being made out by the bookies. Who knows he will probably get beaten 6-0 6-0, but at 5/1 I think the odds are too high to ignore and that 1/10 flatters doubles specialist Moodie.

Bit disappointing today, thought Gabisvili was a definate lol :(. I had them mostly in accy's, so no real returns, only a few quid on spadea and some football results.:wall

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Strength 7/10 ---> Monfils To Beat Davydenko - 3/1 with Stan James Monfils is a talented player and I think that he is someone with immense talent who can easily match and beat anyone on his day. He has a big serve and plays breath-taking Tennis, it either works or it doesnt, and in there recent meeting at Wimbledon it didnt, resulting in Monfils being beaten in straigh sets. Davydenko is a really good player and is comfortable on clay, but I am confident that Monfils can adapt quicker to the clay to beat him in this encounter. H2H is 1:1, but there have never faced each other on clay before. Strength 5/10 ---> Gulbis To Beat Monaco - 4/1 with Bet365 Monaco is solid on clay as he showed when he reached the last 16 at Roland Garros, but I think that he may be undone by the youthful exuberance of Gulbis who is an up and coming player. Gulbis showed he was a decent player when he recently managed to defeat the expierienced Tim Henman in the French Open. I think that his serve will carry him through the match and that he will be able to win through to the next round. H2H is 0-0, this is there first encounter and this is another reason why I think Gulbis will be unknown and may be under estimated. Strenght 10/10 ---> Bogdanovic To Beat Udomchoke - 8/13 with Ladbrokes Alex Bogdanovic is a player who is yet to fufill his potential, but has showed glimpses of what he can do at Queens and when he played mixed doubles at Wimbledon. Udomchoke is also a decent player who showed he can play well on the grass. They will both be lokking to progress in this tournament as they are trying to break into the top 100 and make a bigger impact on the ATP circuit. H2H is 1:0 in Bogdanovic's favour. Ima write up some more in the morning when I have seent he other fixtures and though about them. :hope

Who are the top match fixing players? I am a bit upset after Volandri-Luzzi Match. Luzzi was ahead 1 set + 1 break, and he lost 2nd and 3rd set... Many friends say this was fixed. Is it likely? Are there players well known for fixing matches? I heard about argentinians. Thanks, bye. Giorgia

Sorry mate, Im not really into the conspiricy side of the game lol. All I know is that it is plausible that he could have come back from that score-line due to the fact he is a good clay court player and that he recently beat Federer on it. So, it probably not fixed but just bad luck - :welcometo PL and Stick around:ok

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th I am certainly no tennis expert, and i don't want to upset anyone, but that seemed a bit strong Gerrie. Horse racing has been known to have it's so called race fixing allegations, especially in the lesser races. Of course Henin wouldn't 'fix' her grand slam semi final, but perhaps in some lesser tournaments where players aren't overly interested and the prize money not as good, there could be some strange dealings going on. I would love to think all sport is clean of this, but there could possibly be elements of this in every sport. I'm sure there is a logical reason behind the match in question, injury, fatigue perhaps, but lets not go OTT to Giorgias post

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Head 2 Head: Bogdanovic 1-0 Udomchoke Alex Bogdanovic (rank 110) is the English number two and he goes fairly well on grass, just like every English player. He was born on the surface and his results really justify that. He had a great tournament in Queen’s, beating Hyung-Taik Lee (Top 50 player) and Jamie Baker and then he was two points away of beating Andy Roddick, one of the best players in the world on grass. He has a fairly good serve and his forehand is good enough to make him earn some opportunities to break his opponent’s serve. He reached quarter finals in here last season. Danai Udomchoke (rank 104) likes fast surfaces, but he still struggles with the strange ball bounce on grass. He is 5-7 on grass in the last two seasons and he is still very inconsistent to be able to perform well at ATP tournaments. His serve is instable and he gives some chances to his opponents with a couple of unforced errors on the worst moments. His return is actually good on faster surfaces, but Bogdanovic’s serve won’t give him a lot of chances today. Udomchoke lost in the first round in here last season. Bogdanovic plays his best on grass and he is having a regular season, with some good wins over Top 100 players. Udomchoke likes fast surfaces, but he is yet to show his best tennis on grass. Bogdanovic has the most suitable game for grass of the two and he is also the most experienced player. The English should be the winner of this match. Pick: Alex Bogdanovic to win Good Luck :hope

Exactly, otherwise we could all call Yana Navotna (can't spell) a cheat. She is the biggest cheat in Women's tennis if your theoeries correct. We all know, nerves got the better of her in the Wimbledon Final against Graf many years ago. It happens time and again in matches where a lesser ranked played is close to taking the match agaisnt someone decent.. It's called choking!

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th ATP Bastad - L. Horna vs C. Berlocq - Today, 14:30 Head 2 Head: Horna 0-0 Berlocq Luis Horna (rank 82) made a good impression of himself by beating the first seed Tommy Robredo in the first round by 6:1 1:6 6:1. His forehand was working really well and he seemed very confident and fit. He is one of the best clay courters in the world and he has already won one ATP tournament on clay this season (Vina del Mar). He also have reached semi finals in Portschach and quarter finals in Acapulco. His serve is pretty good and when he is in good shape, he is pretty dominant on the baseline. He struggled with injuries in the middle of the season, but now he seems confident to recuperate his normal position in the rankings, which is clearly in Top 50. Carlos Berlocq (rank 72) had no problems in beating a Swedish wild carder that is almost out of Top 1000 in the first round, but now things will be way harder for him. He continues to dominate most of the clay challengers he is involved with, but he continues to struggle on ATP tournaments. He is 5-5 on main draw ATP matches played on clay this season and all those wins were against struggling players (Gaudio and Benneteau) and players way out of Top 50. His serve is weak and Horna will be able to break him at least once per set. He can return well, but if Horna continues to serve well, the Argentinian won’t have a lot of chances to break today. Horna showed a glimpse of his great shape last Monday against Robredo and reports coming from Bastad said that he was really impressive on his first round match. Berlocq is a reasonable player on clay, but if Horna plays well tomorrow, he should win without much trouble. Pick: L. Horna @1.62

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Those who are convinced that nothing dodgy goes on in tennis betting may be interested to see what's going on with the Volandri v Schukin match. Volandri has come down from 1.31 to as low as 1.03 before the match even started. Nearly 2m euros matched so far, compared to around 80,000€ maximum on the other 2nd round matches in this tournament. Obviously that's not in any way proof that it's fixed, but it's certainly highly suspicious.

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Oooops, missed out on a few good games today. Radek Stepanek vs M Cilic - Lose - Returns---> -10.00 Monfils vs Davydenko - Win - Returns - +28.00 Gulbis vs Monaco - Lose - Returns ---> -5.00 Bogdanovic vs Udomchoke - Lose - Returns ---> -10.00 Bogdanovic choked, as he does when he is not playing in England:wall He eventually lost in three, losing the last 6-0:sad Gulbis battled back against Monaco, he took it to a third set after losing the 1st. But, he eventually lost when he double faulted to hand match point to Monaco. Cillic is too inexpierienced and Stepanek showed a cool head to defeat him in straight sets. Monfils prevailed like i though he would. He is a class player and I'm sure anyone who has seen him would agree. Its such a shame he under-performs, but I think that its good for the punters who can cash in lol. :dude I'll post up my selections for tomorrow in a bit.

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Strength 7/10 ---> Simon To Beat Monaco - 13/8 with Bet365 Gilles Simon is a really good player and I think he has what it takes to defeat Juan Monaco in this match up. This is a very even match up, and it could go either way, this is why I think that Simon should be taken at the better odds. H2H is 1-1, both matches on clay and both matches going to three sets. Strength 7/10 ---> Verdasco To Beat Soderling - 11/8 with Stan James This is another interesting match-up which is very even. Soderling is a good player who is currently trying to break into the top 20, but I think that he is not the best on clay, and when faced with a clay court specialist, such as Verdasco he will be defeated. Verdasco showed at the French Open that he was a good contender for the title when he prgressed to the round of 16 after beating Ferrer and Tursunov respectively - H2H is 1:1. Strength 10/10 ---> Mahut To Beat Dupuis - 4/11 with Ladbrokes Mahut is a decent grass court player, and he showed this as he progressed through the rounds at Queens this year when he came within a point of being the champion. He has borken into the top 100 recently and will be eager to stay there and prove he is a worth ATP player. Dupuis on the other heand is a player who is advancing in years and although he has recently performed well on the grass, I believe that he will be out done by Mahut. H2H is 4:0 in favour of Dupius, but I believe that this is Mahut chance to turn it around and beat him for the first time.

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th

Sylv's Free Pick Today:

ATP Bastad - Robin Soderling vs Fernando Verdasco Head 2 Head: Soderling 2-1 Verdasco Robin Soderling (rank 26) was able to beat Fernando Verdasco in the two matches that these two players had on clay. The Swedish player uses to play very well in this tournament (he reached a semi final and a quarter final) and he is having a good season on clay. He is 9-6 on the surface with wins over Nikolay Davydenko and James Blake, two top 10 players. He has a booming serve and a very nice return. In the first round, he easily beated the Italian Simone Bolelli, a player that is having a great season and is easily considered a contender to reach Top 50 before the end of this season. He will have a great crowd support and the slow conditions of Bastad actually help him in playing his best tennis. Fernando Verdasco (rank 42) easily beated a qualifier that is almost out of Top 1000 in the first round. The Spanish has a good game for clay, but he is pretty inconsistent and ready to commit the weirdest unforced errors in the worst moments possible for him. He is 4-5 on clay this year and besides a great Roland Garros and the win yesterday, he couldn't win another match on clay this season. He was expecting a better campaign on grass and that is probably affecting his mind, which is in general pretty weak. His tendency of losing matches where he had a big lead is just insane and his confidence levels are never at 100% because of that. Soderling is facing one of few players that has a weaker mind than him. The Swedish has a great game for clay and he plays at home. He uses to go very well in here and if he plays like he played yesterday, he should have no problems against a Verdasco that even though can play very surface on clay, easily commits mistakes that will help Soderling to win the match tomorrow. Pick: Robin Soderling to win Good Luck http://andregomes.apostaganha.pt :hope

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th Strength 10/10 ---> Spadea To Beat Moodie - 8/13 with Ladbrokes Spadea is currently finding some good form an I think that he can easily beat Moodie who is not as good a player as him and doesn't posses the same quality. He has a decent grass court game and has other weapons beside his serve. Moodie is mainly a doubles player and this is where he has had most of his sucess, this is another reason why I believe he will not progress any furthur in this tournament. Speadea is the number 2 seed for the tournament and has played well throughout, not dropping a set. - H2H is 0:0. Strength 7/10 ---> Gicquel To beat Stepanek - 13/8 with Ladbrokes Giquel was struggling for form coming into this championship, but has found his feet again and has strted showing glimpses of the player he was a few month back in Halle and Casablanca. Whereas Radek Stepanek is older and will be feeling fatigued after pkaying 2 games in the last 4 days. I have not backed him throighout the tournament and I am not going to start now. I think that Gicquel has what it takes to defeat Stepanek and progree through to the next round. - H2H is 0:0. Strength 7/10 ---> Rochus To Beat Volandri - 13/8 with Paddy Power Rochus had just come off another string of bad results on grass where he didnt find a single win. Now he is off that surface, he is looking better and more confident as a player and has started to get some much needed wins under his belt. He is a good player and one who on top form could break into the top 20, but is now struggling outside the top 50. Voladri is a clay court specialist, but I think he can be defeated in this matchup. The world number 27 has had some good games on clay this year. One of which he beat World Number 1 Roger Federer, but I think that he is inconsistent and can be caught out by a fired up Rochus - H2H is 1:0 is favour of Rochus. Strength 7/10 ---> Horna To Beat Almagro - 15/8 with Bet365 Horna is having a great run in this championships and has not dropped a set so far. He beat the number 1 seed Tommy Robredo and dispatched of another good player in Carlos Berlocq in the 2nd round. He has found some good form and can beat the at times fragile Almagro, who in the 1st round dropped a set to the lowly wildcard Prpic - H2H is 0-0

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th

Sylv's Pick:

ATP Bastad - Carlos Moya vs Robin Soderling Head 2 Head: Moya 1-0 Soderling Carlos Moya (rank 20) seems confident and in very good shape right now. He easily beated Ivan Navarro-Pastor and Thomas Johansson in the first two rounds, which shows that the Spanish player is in here to do his best and try to win the tournament. He has the weapons to do it, since he has a very complete game and a good movement that helps him in the baseline battles that happen so often on clay. He is returning very well and he had no problems in breaking three times the big serve of Thomas Johansson yesterday. He looks like a man on a mission right now and it will be hard to stop him this week. Robin Soderling (rank 26) struggled a lot to beat Fernando Verdasco and once again he showed how mentally weak he is. He had a lot of troubles to hold serve today, which is quite strange since the Swedish player is the owner of a big serve. Soderling is a good returner on clay, but Moya is serving very well and it won’t give him a lot of chances to break. Moya is also more consistent in the baseline than Soderling and he is way more mentally tough than the Swedish, which may help him on a close match tomorrow. Moya is one of the best clay courters in the world right now and he is having a great week. Soderling is playing at home, but he doesn’t seem to be very confident on his game right now. These two players met each other in here in 2003 with Moya winning by 6:3 6:4. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same result happens tomorrow with Moya winning again.

  • Pick: Carlos Moya to win

Re: Tennis 9th - 15th

Head 2 Head: Mathieu 2-3 Stepanek Paul-Henri Mathieu (rank 28) is having a career season and he looks pretty confident on his game right now. He is very talented, especially on clay and he has been beaten strong competition without having mind problems, which is quite strange for him because he was always considered as a weak minded player. He is a great returner and his serve isn’t bad neither. He has already beaten three players of Top 80 this week, showing that his good shape continues and he is getting more confident every week. In the semi finals, he is facing a player that he easily beated in straight sets in the first round of Wimbledon this year, Radek Stepanek. Radek Stepanek (rank 127) is trying to recuperate places in the rankings after his injury lay-off, but things will be way harder for him tomorrow. He has been playing very well this week, but he is simply not at the same level of Mathieu right now. His serve is pretty good but Mathieu is such a great returner that I can’t see the Czech holding serve everytime he serves on a set. Stepanek is a capable returner, but Mathieu is better on the baseline and I can’t see the Czech breaking more than once in the entire match. The altitude of Gstaad helps the servers and only great returners like Mathieu are able to break serve in these conditions. Mathieu was able to break three times the the big serve of Monfils today, so I don’t think he will have troubles in handling Stepanek’s serve. Mathieu showed in his worst surface that he is better than Stepanek right now and now on his favourite surface, he will try to show that once again. Stepanek is having a good week, but he simply isn’t on his best level yet and I think Mathieu won’t have a lot of problems to win tomorrow and to reach the final of this tournament.

  • Pick: Paul-Henri Mathieu to win @ 1.72 Betfair
