RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 9.05 Newbury 7f Class 5 handicap and another double figure priced selection: Carcinetto (12/1 Ladbrokes) - The favs have something to prove IMO, so take a chance on the solid form of Carcinetto. Very consistent recently, and has ideal conditions today of 7f on fast ground. 6f was too short lto and previous to that ridden by amateurs. Tolley Dean takes the ride and a useful 5lb off and should be thereabouts at the business end. Trainer has a couple of good winners yesterday too. 3rd @ 5/1 but got the early 12/1:nana Pretty good night, with 4 selections and results: WON 20/1:cow 3rd 12/1:clap 3rd 8/1:clap unpl:$

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Just the one, so a lazy Sunday beckons: 5.10 Bath Class 4 handicap with 13 runners over a trip just short of 6f: Roman Maze (11/1 Totesport) - I originally liked Mine Behind (as per AK) but lack of recent form puts me off a little so I have settled on the Ryan Moore ridden Roman Maze. Conditions seem right for this horse and a very good jockey booking to boot. Best at around 6f, loves firm going and very capable in this grade. Some stats to back this up: 4 wins & 5 places from 16 attempts at around this trip, as opposed to 3 wins / 6 places from 36 over further. 3 wins / 5 places from 17 on GF or faster, against just 2 places from 16 on good or softer. 6 wins from 31 in Cl 4 or below, 1 from 20 Cl 3 or above. Form is solid too, excuses last twice a badly hampered lto and trip / ground wrong the time before, but previously looked very good when winning at this trip at Windsor 3 starts ago. Excellent EW claims in what is a poor Cl 4 heat.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Just the 1 again for today, and it runs tonight: 7.35 Windsor 12 runners for this Class 4 handicap over 10f, and a very open looking race it is: Cactus King (20/1 William Hill) - Judged on last 2 runs this horse has little chance but I'm prepared to forgive those efforts. Lto was over an insufficient trip of 1m and had softish ground which this horse doesn't like, failed to settle also and the time before, the horse was outclassed in a really top Class 2 handicap at Epsom. Previous to that, won well on AW at Lingfield over this trip in this grade off a 3lb higher mark. Very well handicapped tonight. Only other previous try over 10f on GF resulted in a 3rd over C&D off 6lb higher mark. Also, other try at Windsor, the horse was placed also, in Class 3 race when with John Gosden. Does have negatives, but there are much worse 20/1 bets out there.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Onto this evening, and down to Chester we go: 7.45 Chester 7f Class 3 handicap round the tightest track in Britain, where course form counts for a lot: Phluke (10/1 Betfred) - IMO, a big price for a horse with a lot going for it tonight. Firstly, lets forgive its lto run as the race was dominated by hold up horses, the pace being too quick, and also course didn't suit as Phluke prefers a turning 7f. Trainer has been in really good form this term, as has the horse winning its 3 previous starts prior to lto. Only 2lb higher than last winning mark, and that win came in a Class 2. Well drawn too in berth 4. Has good course form, a win and a 2nd from 2 tries, 7f is its trip and the ground is perfect, 4 wins & 6 places from 16 efforts on this ground. Must go well at a very backable EW price.
RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Phluke unpl too:( Sorry guys. Down to the South coast for the afternoon bet tomorrow: 2.00 Brighton Up to press, 4 places paid here with 16 lining up for this 5f sprint, Class 6 handicap. Very strange course is Brighton, and one where you will quite often find course winners going in again. Multahab (10/1 RPF) - One of only 3 C&D winners in the race, and this horse has won here 3 times from 10 attempts. Steadily creeping down weights and is now 1lb lower than last win 5 starts ago. Excuses last 4 times: reared up lto, trip & track (AW) 3 starts ago, whilst a combination of handicap mark and class was to blame for other 2 efforts. Over this trip, on this ground and in this grade, was 3 from 4 last term. Dane O'Neill takes over from apprentices today, and that is surely an indication of expectations. Loves a fast track, needs firmish ground and is at home in this grade, all of which makes this a very good EW bet.

Just curious, I followed you on this bet and placed it on bwin (I know they suck)... it says this on the slip: Race 1 - 5f Handicap (Who will finish in the top 4?)Multahab I take it they will just change it to the top 3 due to the withdrawn horses at the start? Seems a bit unfair when it specifically says top 4...
