The trends to consider here are position in the weights and in the betting. 5 out of the 6 runnings have been won by either the top weight [3] or 2nd top weight [2]. 5 out of 6 winners have ben in the first 4 in the betting [ the other was 5th fav]. KALIC D'ALM [ 5/1] and AVIATION [ 7/1] meet the criteria with personal preference being for the former [due to KALIC D'ALM being a 9y-old] Here's a list of races where the FAV'S are to be wary of !!!! CATT 2.20 - 0 winning favs out of 6 CATT 1.20 - 1 out of 6 SOUTHWELL 1.40 - 0 out of 5

It usually pays to follow the market here with 7 out of 8 winners coming from the 1st two in the betting [ the exception was 3 rd fav]. 4y-olds have a record worth noting with 23 runners of that vintage running over the years and 8 placed ,of which there were 3 winners, 3 2nd's and 1 3rd place. CROCODILE DUNDEE + STORM PROSPECT are 1st and 2nd FAVS respectively in the RP's FORECAST Personal preference is for STORM PROSPECT having an AYR win in similar ground to tomorrows. WOLVES 4.00 1M4F Fillies H'cap
2006 Millagros (5) 6 8-13 4/1 I Semple Paul Hanagan 70

2004 Molly's Secret (4) 6 8-6 16/1 C G Cox Jimmy Quinn 56
2003 Belinda (1) 6 8-8 6/1 K Bell Fergus Sweeney 53
Maybe clutching at straws here with only 4 runnings so far but interestingly it's those older horses who have struck gold with 4y-olds making up nearly half the total runners so far but to no success . No Fav in 4 has won . Out of the past 4 winners , 2 had a HURDLE race and one was running for the first time since OCT . Last years victor runs again tomorrow and is one of only 3 horses aged over 4 and MILAGROS has followed a similar path with his previous race being a 2m Hurdle race at MUSSLEBURGH. Only 1 debutant has been successful in 10 runnings of this 1m Maiden. The odds range has been from FAV [4] to 7/1 [ ignoring 2004 result]. M L W BELL has had 2 runners in 10 years and those 2 have both won . BLUE MONKEY is Bell's representative in this years renewal and is the selection as the odds and experience are in his favour. SIR SANDICLIFF should also be considered [again on odds + experience] WARWICK 3.30

This 3m5f Grade 3 Chase stands out as a lightweights heaven with NO winners carrying over 10:13 and none being out of the Handicap. Favs have a poor record with 0 wins in 7. Winning odds have ranged from 6/1 up to 25/1. 6 out of 7 winners have been aged over 8 years old and over. NONE of the previous victors had run in the WELSH NATIONAL . Following those pointers leaves us with 3 to consider - BARON WINDRUSH HAUTCLAN TOUCH CLOSER HAUTCLAN is the selection as his winning form in FRANCE on Heavy going is a major plus. One sticking point here is the fact that it's only in the last 3 season's that it's been a Grade 3 race but the stats seem to have followed the previous years patterns. A couple of races that have some pointers rather than Trends are the WARWICK 2.00 a Novice Chase only run 3 times previously where A KING has won Twice and 5 - 7y-olds have filled the first 2 places 5 times from 6. KING'S representative is Il DUCE , 2nd fav in the RP forecast and a 7y-o. KEMPTON 1.05 - Nov Chase , Surprisingly for this type of race the last 6 favs have been beaten and FOUR of them were ODDS ON. Take a look at 2nd fav ROYAL SHAKESPERE + OFAREL D'AIRY [P. Nichols rep] He won this in 1999 with FLAGSHIP UBERALLES as a 5-y old. FAVS TO AVOID ---------------- WARWICK 3.30 0-7 LINGFIELD 3.35 0-6 KEMPTON 3.15 1-9 PUNCHESTOWN 1.25 0-5. The last race is interesting as it's a GRADE 3 Juvenile Hurdle , a type of race where i would expect Favs to have a better record.

The FAVS NOT TO FOLLOW is looking promising and with that wonderful thing that is HINDSIGHT, maybe i should have left out the WARW 3.30 as it has been upgraded since 2004 so ,technically it's a totally different race ! This 2m5f Nov Chase has been won by a 7 y-old in 6 out of 8 runnings [there was no 7y-old in 2001's running , so the record is actually 6 out of 7] 1ST or 2ND favs have been successful 6 out of 8 times. 5 out of the 6 winners who had run in that that season had won at least one race [ 1 other winner was a HUNTER f.t.o and the other making his seasonal debut]. 7 6y-olds have tried and all have failed to win. The most eye-catching stat i've found is that 5 of those 6 winners to have ran that season had previously competed at LEOPARDSTOWN'S XMAS meeting.3 of them in the GRADE 1 NOV CHASE . SIR FREDERICK - The only 7y-old in the field and the ONLY entry to have ran at the XMAS meeting is worth an interest. He has also won this season. PIERSE HURDLE

TJ TAFFE + EDWARD HALES have won 4 of the last 5 runnings and tomorrow TAFFE run's 6/1 shot ONE LIFE , while HALE'S runner is the 5/1 chance SERGHEYEV. FAVS ----- ONLY 1 FAV has been successful in each of the following races - 12.20 , 2.55 , 3.30 and the 4.00. No surprise with the first 3 as they are competitive Handicaps but the 4.00 is a surprising one as it's a NH Flat race.

A Seller to have a look at here and unusually for the type of race the market it's usually a fancied horse that wins with only one winner in the past 10 being double figures in the betting. Nine 8y-olds have contested the event since 2000 with none winning. Horses carrying 9:3 and single figures in the betting have a record of 1,0,1,1. SHRINE MOUNTAIN beat RAFFERTY 2 runs ago and has since finished 3rd in a 10f race [never won over 8f and ran v freely that time] That was RAFFERTY'S first run for a while ,so improvment could be looked for , however he's an 8y-old so the preference is for the former, being a 7y-old carrying 9:3 and 2nd fav in the RP f'cast. Fav to ignore - PLUMPTON 3.30 - 0 WINS IN 9 RUNNINGS

Re: Trends Just one race to consider and in it only one trend to consider and that is the runners of trainer MW EASTERBY. NEWCASTLE 12.40 A 2m Maiden Hurdle race EASTERBY'S record [since 2000] = 1st [7/2] , 3rd [4/1] , 1st [5/1] , 2nd [16/1] , no runner in 2005 , 1st [11/2]. Quite an impressive record i think you'll agree. I beleive that there are some races that a certain Trainer will have a runner marked out for and will have it aimed at that race . This could be one of these. SELECTION - DANCE THE MAMBO F/cast odds = 11/4 FAV to avoid = 2.50 Newcastle 0/6

This is a race that has been won by one of the countries TOP TRAINERS PIPE stable have had 20 runners - 3 wins , 2 places. HOBBS - 6th , 3rd , 1st , 3rd , 2nd. KING - 3RD , 3RD , 1ST , 3RD , 1ST . 9 out of 10 has been won by 1st or 2nd Fav. EIGHT 5Y-OLDS and TWO 4Y-OLDS have won. PIPE has 2 runners , GO SOLO is 6 y-old so is ignored , AMIR EL JABAL [4y-old] HOBBS runs BON VIVEUR [4y-old] KING runs RUSSIAN CONSORT and his record and the fact that this is a 5y-old makes it my personal selection , though i believe that the winner will come from one of these 3. 2.50 TAUNTON -------------- PIPE has won this 4 times from 8 races. No 4y-old has won. 5+6y-olds have won 9/10 , the other was an 8y-old. No horse carrying under 10:11 has won. VISIBILITY - PIPE's 8Y-OLD carrying 11:8 and ridden by a claimer should have a good e-w chance. 3.20 TAUNTON --------------- Just a couple of pointers to consider here 1- ALL horses aged over 10+ have only 6 places , no wins from 34 runners 2- CHARLIES FUTURE has a record of 5 , 2 , 1, 2 when running at TAUNTON in SOFT or HEAVY going. PASSENGER OMAR'S has won 4 times but 3 of them have been at WARWICK FAVS to avoid - TAUNTON 1.50 1 out of 10

This 1m1f Amateur riders H'cap has been split into 2 divisions and it's the 1st of these that we're taking a look at. AGE - SIX 5Y-OLDS , THREE 6Y-OLDS have been successful [1x8y-old] 27 4Y-OLDS have ran with only 4 being placed and 0 wins. WEIGHTS - Nothing above 11:00 has won. Apart from the 25/1 8y-old winner in 2001 , all winners have been 10/1 or under in the betting. That leaves 2 to consider [although both carrying over 11:00] UHURU PEAK + ZANDO. Preference is for the former as his jockey tomorrow is MISS BROTHERTON who has won 3 times on him , indeed his ONLY WINS , from 5 mounts. A pointer for the 4.35 wolves is N LITTMODENS record of 2 wins from 4 runners [ one finished 4th beaten only 1l and reported as running on] His entry in this is the 12/1 shot NINTH HOUSE . Note - All 5 runnings of the 3.55 MUSS have been won by 4y-olds FAV to avoid - 2.55 MUSSLEBURGH 1 out of 10

Re: Trends SATURDAY - A bit of a rush today so i've left out the big two races at HAYDOCK that BOWLES has covered so well . LINGFIELD ----------- 1.05 1M Maiden - The market usually shows us the way here with 3 favs , 1 2nd fav and a 3rd fav being successful. The last 5 winners have either had one run on C/D or had ,at most, 2 runs at the end of the flat season. This gives us 2 to consider - M . CHANNON'S MAN OF VISION who has had a 3rd place on C/D and M TREGONING'S NOOJOOM who fininshed 6th in a NEWBURY Maiden. Preference is given to NOOJOOM ,as Tregoning won this race last year and looks the more likely to start FAV. 1.45 NAAS - The record of JAMES BOWE and the FAVS stand out in this race . BOWE has a record of 1 , 2 , 1, 1 since 2002 Favs have won 6/8 runnings. SWEET KILN is todays Fav and trained by J . BOWE. 1.15 + 1.45 WINC - Again it's a trainer and the record of the FAVS to look at here. It's a Novice race [sometimes split into 2 divs] thats been won by P . NICHOLS 4 times . Since 2002 - 2 , 5 , 1 ,1 , 1 , 1. 6 Favs have won in the last 10 runnings. NICHOLS has the [probable] Favs in both divs today OTTO DES PICTONS in the 1.15 and BREEDSBREEZE in the 1.45. 3.50 WINC - P . NICHOLS has won this 3 times out of the last 8 runnings ALMOST BROKE + LE JAGUAR represent his stable today. FAVS to avoid - 3.45 NAAS 0/8 FAVS to follow - 1.45 NAAS 6/8 + 2.15 NAAS 5/8 + 2.45 NAAS 6/8

Including a dead-heat in 2003 the FAVS have won 6 out of 9 . 5Y-OLDS have won 7 , inc the last 6. The last 6 winners have been 5-yolds carrying 11-10. The last 9 winners [inc d-h] had ran between 1-7 times. Lats years winner had been brought down in his previous race when looking to finish in the first 2 , If that had happened then ALL [except EMMET D-H] previous winners would have placed between 2nd and 5th LTO. This narrows the field down to the top 2 in the betting. GOOD THING - [sELECTION] JOYS ISLAND FAIRYHOUSE 4.05 Some interesting pointers here with NO 4Y-OLD winners. ALL previous winners were in the top 3 in the betting. Out of 8 runnings 5 were won by 5y-olds , 2 4y-olds and one 7y-old. 5 WINNERS were making their racecourse debut. It all points toward the top 2 in the market [again!!] MAD FISH [selection] + DAY DAY.

Re: Trends TUESDAY --------- THURLES 1.50 - This NOV HURDLE has been won by a 5y-old [twice] or a 6y-old [7] in all of the last 9 runnings ALL have been 1st or 2nd fav. N Meade has had 3 runners in this period with a record of 1 , 1 , 3. He runs the 5y-old FAV CLENI BOY and thats the selection. THURLES 3.20 - A NOVICE CHASE which has been upgraded in the last few seasons . 1st and 2nd FAVS have won 7 out of 9 runnings. 7 or 8 Y-OLDS have been successful 7 out of 9 times. The first 2 in the betting f/cast are GAZZA'S GIRL + CHICAGO VIC. The Fav is GAZZA'S GIRL and although some previous winners have been PULLED-UP or BROUGHT DOWN in past races that season NONE had FALLEN. This is a negative for the fav and makes CHICAGO VIC the selection due to the fact that RUBY WALSH'S record on this one is 1,2,2,1,2.

The exacta/forecast has been found 4 times. The FAVS to avoid has been successful in 13 out of 15 races. Winners odds have ranged from 2/7 up to 12/1. Placed odds have reached up to 10/1. I beleive that even in such a short space of time this is looking quite a decent thread and still hold the opinion that it will come to it's best when the Flat season starts. Non-Handicaps seem to be the most promising types of races to concentrate on. Thanks to BOWLES for inspiring it :ok
