edtkh
With the draws finally out today, we're all set for the second Grand Slam of the year and it should be an enthralling fortnight with some exciting matchups(and hopefully, some clangers by the books in the early rounds). :hope As far as the outright market's concerned in the men's tourny, I can't see past a Federer-Nadal final (although admittedly, that's pretty obvious to most avid tennis followers) but I'd certainly beg to differ from the mass hordes who think Nadal has got this all sewn up. Nadal may lead Federer 5-1 on head-to-head(and 3-0 on clay), but there's no denying Federer has closed the gap between him and the Spaniard as there was hardly anything seperating(when Federer had 2 matchpoints) the pair in Rome when they last met. In truth, this should be a 50-50 market and Federer has got to be the value bet given the difference in the price between the duo. However, history isn't on Nadal's side although he is as well poised to rewrite it as anyone before him : it has been 5 years since anyone defended his French Open crown and much as Kuerten was irresistible on clay, it is easy to forget even Guga wasn't able to defend his crown after the first time he won it as a raw teenager back in 1997. Then again, neither did Michael Chang nor Mats Wilander who won their maiden French Open in their youth. Besides, I can't help but feel Federer has got somewhat an easier draw than Nadal with the Swiss having no formiddable opposition(Robredo will probably be the toughest he could face in the quarters) until at least the semis when I'd expect him to play one of the following : Nalbandian/Gaudio/Ferrero/Moya. The draw's certainly been a bit of a surprise with 3 former champions coming in the second quarter, yet with seemingly no serious contender from the third... :@ As for the women's draw, I'd personally still fancy Henin-Hardenne to do well much as her form has been abysmal(by her standards, compared with last year when she went unbeaten throughout the claycourt season coming into RG) lately - her mental toughness, aptitude and experience on this surface will go a long way to set her apart from the many pretenders to her throne IMO. Will be back with more on individual matches closer to Day 1 when prices are up... Enjoy the tournament!

FootballTennis
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) how is Federer/Nadal 50-50??? Nadal won their last 4 meetings and the h2h record on clay is 3-0 to Nadal. Its 50-50 if Nadal is injured or not fully fit. But a fully fit Nadal is the hot favouirte for sure. Mr Intensity
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) Looking at the mens draw Federer has an awful half. Every match from 3rd round onwards could be a nightmare. Federer is getting very close to Nadal and I quite fancied some action on Federer, but not at this stage with this draw! He's struggled more at the French than other events in previous years and he may not make this final. Nalbandian would have to be the choice as he has the game to take it to Federer, and wouldn't meet him till the quarters, after Fed has had to face possibly Berdych and Ancic/Robredo. But, Nalbandians quarter isn't great including Davydenko and a few games who are out of form but may just get it together (Grosjean, Nieminen, Gaudio, Ferrero, Moya). I'm going to have to leave the mens, none of the prices really stand out and I'm trying to avoid the outrights:unsure :unsure.
A-Team
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) I think David Ferrer has been given the draw to have a really good run. It's not easy by any means and his opener against GGL is not straight-forward at all, but overall it looks the weakest of the quarters. He's been in pretty good form and could well have gone on to win the Hamburg Masters Series had he not totally lost concentration when he had 5 set points in the first set breaker against Robredo. He reached the qf last year and I think he's a decent bet to go one better. Verdasco has the game to be best placed to threaten him but he seems to be a complete nutter and has a terrible record here. I can't see past Nadal for the title. Federer probably wouldn't be a whole lot shorter than his current outright price before a final against Nadal. Don't think there's any value backing him now at all. FootballTennis
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) I am going for Nadal to win the French Open at 1.80 with Willhill. I believe nadal winning the french is even more certain than Federer winning wimbledon despite Federer winning wimbledon is only 1.50 Nadal at 1.80 are excellent odds, he has 53 in a row wins, he only needs 7 to win the french. SportTennis EventFrench Open - Henman vs Carlsen SelectionHenman To Win in THREE SETS Strength10/10 Date28/05/2006 Bookmaker/PriceStan James @ 2.20 (Back) ReasoningHenman should win this match. Not much value on match betting on the opening day, so i'm trying my luck with set betting on this Henman Match! Only played four matches on clay this season, he has been in alright form as he has beaten Johansson in straight sets in Rome before going down to Nadal which was fully expected. Henmans opponent Carlsen is in dreadful form, his last match he lost to 299 ranked player on his only clay match this year & before that, last month he lost to 286 ranked player in QF in Lanzarote on Hard Court. Henman should have too much class for his opponent here & hopefully will win in straight sets.

Mr Intensity
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) Awesome price Bob:ok SportTennis EventFrench Open SelectionHENMAN 3-0 v Carlsen Strength10/10 Date28/05/2006 Bookmaker/PriceStan James @ 2.20 (Back) ReasoningThis really should be easy for Henman, Carlsen is almost the best draw he could have got. Carlsen is simply dreadful on clay, he's 7-20 since 2000 and 1-9 on the surface in his last 10 matches. He's 0-4 in matches at the French and has only won one set, against a French qualifier 3 years ago. In his only match on caly this year he lost to Jose Antonio Sanchez de Luna who I've never heard of and doesn't even have a ranking! Henman has shown some decent game lately, I was impressed with him in Rome, even losing easily to Nadal he was hitting the ball well. In recent interviews he's been taking about how much better his back in and that must be taken as a positive sign. Carlsens main (and only) strength is his serve, and against one of the best returners in the world he is going to have major problems. Henman should really be able to tear Carlsen apart, and I'd be very surprised if he didn't win 3-0. I'm also looking at laying a couple of 3-0's (Acasuso, possibly bandy), but there isn't enough liquidity for Sports-Punter, so I'll take another look in the morning:ok

edtkh
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) Just 2 bets for Day 1. :dude 20pts Safina-Mauresmo-Nalbandian-Henman (1.61 @ William Hill) Safina should see off Zvonareva at a canter given her recent claycourt form - that's before considering Zvonareva has never made much of an impact on clay anyway. Mauresmo and Henman are pretty much self-explanatory as they're both in a different league from their opponents, while Bandy should also outclass Wawrinka in spite of the Swiss' tireless workrate and never-give-up mindset. 5pts Santoro to beat Acasuso (4.50 @ William Hill) Santoro is way overpriced here IMO. While Santoro is hardly a world beater on this surface, I feel the market has overreacted to Acasuso's surprising run at the Hamburg Masters 2 weeks ago and the price certainly belies Santoro's value - this should really be much closer to a 1.50/2.50 shot. Santoro, on his day, can well give even the most esteemed players a game, nevermind cause the first shock of the tournament against a seemingly average player. Cheers & Good Luck! :ok Starting Bank : 100.00pts Current Bank : 100.00pts Profit/Loss : 0.00pts

Good luck:ok on this one, Safina isn't what you'd consider a golden ticket. Zvonareva may not be a direct impact on clay, but she's 14-4 in the french (2 - 32s, QF, 16) with a few impressive scalps along the way. This year she hasn't exactly been on form, but the losses have been against some quality opponents. Hope it runs for ya!
WinningTipster
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) Hi guys, We start the French Open with the following picks: ATP TOUR, FRENCH OPEN MONTANES TO D GINEPRI @ 1.67 on stanjames NOVAK TO D TURSUNOV @ 1.56 on betfair VLIEGEN TO D DLOUHY @ 1.25 on stanjames WTA TOUR, FRENCH OPEN SANTANGELO TO D PARRA-SANTONJA @ 1.27 on pinnacle We already placed several bets (and won all of them) against Ginepri and Tursunov this clay court season. Both of them simply can't play on clay. Tursunov has won just 1 match out of 7 and Ginepri 2 out of 8. On the other hand, we have Novak who won reached the SF stage last week by defeating Chela, Melzer and Phau; and Montanes who defeated Ginepri 6:4, 6:4 even on faster US clay in Houston. In Vliegen-Dlouhy match-up we have a top-30 player in hot form against somebody who has not won a matche (!) on an ATP level in 2006. The odds are low but it looks like a safe bet. Very similar reasoning to Santangelo-Parra-Santonja bet: Parra Santonja has not won a match in 2006 and has not won a match against top 100 opponent, while Santangelo has enjoyed a run of very consistent results, including a WTA title and several victories over top 20 opponents. www.WinningTipster.com
Mr Intensity
Re: Tennis : French Open (28th May - 11th June) SportTennis EventFrench Open SelectionLAY ACASUSO 3-0 v Santoro (Lay) Strength10/10 Date28/05/2006 Bookmaker/Price>Betfair @ 2.38 (Lay) ReasoningAcasuso is extremely short for this one, all based on a decent week in Hamburg, and I'm not buying it. I'm not sure if Santoro will be able to get the win, but I'm sure he'll be able to grab something. Acasuso also showed some goof form in South America earlier in the year but that quickly went and we can see he is very inconcistant. Santoro causes everyone problems, and even though he doesn't have great form recently (only winning a couple of rounds in Rome) I'm sure he can take at least a set. Playing at home (possibly for the last time in this tournament) he can get a little inspired, and he hasn't lost in straight sets in the first round since 1997 when he was whipped by Pete Sampras. H2H is 1-0 to Acasuso on a hard court but Santoro won a set. £236 available.
