Kanga
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. Hi Merlin, I've cancelled the League 2 - 28/12 Shrewsbury v Macclesfield result I somehow had it down as 0-0 ????? But it wont let me cancel the Championship - Leeds vs Crystal palace match - as it says no result has been entered. The only conclusion I can make is that I've only just uploaded the datasheets ( more recently than yourself) when the match has been rescheduled for February - hence it didnt show up on my search. I'll recheck my findings and alter the tables.
merlin
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. .... Results for week ending 22nd January 2006. Chelsea - Draw Southampton T - Lost Colchester U - Won Tranmere R - Draw Hibernian - Won Rangers - Won Celtic - Won So to recap - all these selections were taken from the Weekly Predictor on the Times site at thread no.1. The criteria chosen at random - Home ->60%, Aways - -> 50%. So again a promising set of results here, 4 wins from 7, and even a couple of draws pops up! Upward and onward.;)
merlin
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. .... sounds OK to me, but why 48%, why not 50% it would have only eliminated one game this week, and given 3 from 4.What would last week have shown using 50%?;)
Kanga
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. Hi Merlin, 50% would have eliminated 2 matches this week (both the games in League 2) 3/4 is very good but 5/6 is excellent. Last week would have shown 4/5 with 50% or 5/6 with 48% I agree 50% is a convienient round number - but that's all it is It's still very early days and time will tell the best cut off point but I was looking at many combinations of numbers and 48% was the best number I found - SO FAR !!!! Kanga
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. Hi Muppet, Thanks for working it out :clap What do you think ? This was just my take on the resulting tables - there may be a better method that we all may find in the coming weeks - but it's certainly looking promising. My personal take is that by using 3 predictor programs it evens out the formula weighting bias that the individual systems may have. Just need DavidC to keep feeding me the BG numbers, if willing :ok
muppet77
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. yeah it's worth a crack for a week or two. unfortunately it's fa cup this weekend though, so a bit more random - and MW sheets won't pick for this. :( what do you two think? Thanks both for the kind words, it's fun to do and is showing promise. I'm actually feeling a bit guilty now as it's invading this thread. merlin
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. .... thanks Kanga, interesting as usual and indeed a mixed bag we have seen here. Not often you see the likes of Arsenal losing on their own patch, and how about Liverpool being held by lowly Brum!Surprise of the night Man U being hit for four and at the same time scoring 3 themselves away from home! The form book just continues to fly out of the window!:\
Kanga
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. I can only put it down to F A Cup fallout and midweek scheduling - I heard on the radio Arsenal had a lot of key players suspended or injured maybe that was true of others as well - anyway ............ The combination system is still in profit but only just - 5 losers from the last 8 selections - here's hoping for a better weekend.
merlin
Re: Times Newspaper Predictor. .... well done with these tables Kanga, and congrats on getting the MW scores to show greater accuracy.I have one match different Oxford U v Rochdale, I have 1-1 whereas you have 1-2. The selections don't look too far away either on paper, so look forward with interest once again. Cheers.;)
