Hello fellow Punters, 

The Punters Lounge ELO Ratings (how they are calculated)

I want to create a post to "test" the picks that the ELO throws up. I've set an average kind of amount as a cut-off and that's going to tell me if it's a Home - Draw or Away.

I will have two banks (£100 each). One for the Premier League and the other for the EFL Championship. £5 a bet. Here are the picks for the 23rd.

Please note that I am not betting on these, I am not tipping these up, these are not my tips. Purely for testing purposes as I know many people, including myself, want to see how they perform.

Chelsea 8/15
Bournemouth/Brighton Draw 11/4
Man City 8/15
Liverpool 3/10
Man United 13/20

Championship
Burnley 13/8
Middlesbrough 8/13
Luton/Hull Draw 5/2

These are obviously quite short prices. I may "trial & error" as I go along to get better-priced selections. Let's see how we go.

Good luck. My concern about the ratings is that they’re based on such a small number of games but I’ll be interested to see how you get on. My other thought is the price v ratings angle. A 20 point margin would be one thing at, say, 1/2, but maybe another at 2/1. Now if you could convert the ratings into fair prices that would be great! 

As a quick and easy proxy, maybe you could multiply the points advantage by the team’s odds to give a rough and ready value measure. 1.5 x 20 woulds score 30 whereas 3 x 20 score 60. That could give you the potential best bets each week reflecting the ELO ratings and the available odds.
