The Players Championship

Recommended Posts

Gonna have to look over field, got quite a few free bets to use and might use a couple of my bigger fbs on some of the favs and smaller ones for ew.

Also a couple of small bets on Kenyan Open.

See what specials are going for the Players, hopefully Hills do their special that they've done last couple week.s

After some betting trends reading and it seems approach play is crucial to success at the Players so I'm going for the following:

Xander Schauffele (20/1 e/w @ Betfair)
Tony Finau (22/1 e/w @ Betfair)
Rickie Fowler (35/1 e/w @ Betfair)

Rickie Fowler had a week last week and it feels like he's heading back to his best and the Players suits a player like him. 35/1 would do very nicely, but I'm mainly playing for the places if I'm honest.

Betfair are offering 12 places, but the natural punters in me wants to go for 10 places and get better odds.

I can't remember the last time I saw him near the top of a leaderboard - would be nice if he won though.

Yeah, only one top 10 this year. Not like the Matsuyama of old. Think his approach might let him down this weekend but if he's on form you never know. Some really big odds prices in this field although it's a very hard course to play.

Yes big price considering his talent, Monday afternoon on betfair exchange he was 120 !

Saw Kuchar up at 175/1 too but he's now 90 in most places. Not for me though, Kuch. Never seems to string 4 good rounds together.

I've never bet on a player and he withdrew, Do you get a void money back?

Me neither, though I'm pretty sure if he's already started playing (I.e. in this case he completed one round) it counts as a loss.

That said, with the high profile nature of the player involved, some bookmakers may give back the stakes to a certain amount as free bets maybe.

An intriguing one for sure.

I would say if he doesn't start that's a definite void money back but after round 1 or round 2. Yeah, not sure about that one. Would be good to know if anybody finds out.

Fairly sure if a player starts and withdraws then it's a loss. That's certainly the case in tennis - plenty of times in the past I've bet on a player to win a tournament after they've played a match only for them to withdraw before the next round, meaning I've done my money without my player so much as swinging their bat which as you can imagine is incredibly frustrating.

I used to hate that with tennis. My biggest pet peeve though when I bet with tennis was when I had a player to win 2-0 and a set up and a break up, the other player would retire. Drove me nuts

Going back to the golf, I think that last hole and the 2 shot swing has put scheffler uncatchable but I still am hoping my man Min can do it

I've found over the years that that kind of thing evens itself out. There's been times where I've been the beneficiary of a player withdrawing from a tournament and also the beneficiary of a player retiring. It's swings and roundabouts and what I've learnt is that if you're happy your original bet was sound then in the long run you'll get ahead despite the odd frustrating setback caused by a retirement.

Yeah it'll go down as a loss. Actually pretty sure if a player tees off technically it's a loss.

I'll be surprised if it gets refunded, thankfully it was a freebie but it was a bigger one, meh.

Just annoys me that he probably felt a bit iffy before and decided to try it out,  unfortunately us punters pay the price.

Scheffler looks good for win now.

You're right about teeing off - which reminds me of a player years ago who teed off and then immediately retired. Can't remember the name but I'm sure they were injured but needed to tee off for financial or ranking reasons.

ah that's nice of everybody to throw it away and hand it on a plate to Scheffler. Woeful from Min there. Matusyama double bogey too. wow

be lucky to make the placings for Lee way he's playing now.

Got to feel for you with Min Woo Lee. This will be some tough lessons learnt for the young lad. After winning a decent strength field Scottish Open last year I had him down as coping better with the final round pressure than this.

Couple of ew so not all bad, annoyed about rahm bet, but thems the chances. Matsuyama could have even worked out better but opted for 50/1 at 10 places, hovland 8.

Also got a free bet via unibet and stuck it on scheffler for masters, so got a few of the top of the pack, lol.

Will see if any other offers come up and then on that week elect for ew bets as probably got a decent amount of win only already.
