StevieDay1983
As this is third running of the Mares’ Chase there are only limited statistics available to help us make an informed decision on who to side with. This race is contested over the same course and distance as the Ryanair Chase and the main reason for its inclusion on Gold Cup Day is that it will hopefully encourage classier mares to be sent chasing in the oncoming years. Impervious Colm Murphy is famed for his association with the likes of Brave Inca. He now trains this mare who has won her last three races including her last two at graded level. She acts on best on ground with plenty of give in it and is already proven at the trip. Running in the colours of JP McManus, she is likely to make here presence felt here. Allegorie De Vassy A solid Grade two winner who has won her last two races by at least nineteen lengths. Willie Mullins has won both of the preceding renewals with Elimay and Colreevy and he will be trying his hardest to give Rich Ricci a first ever winner in the race. She is clearly a class above anything she has faced so far and has proven stamina over further distances. She wont be convenienced by any ground and she is a major player. Jeremy's Flame Returned to winning ways when beating Zambella by nearly seven lengths last time out at Huntingdon. She has a fairly inconsistent record but seemed to appreciate the return to this trip most recently. She has never won at this grade and that has to be a concern against less exposed rivals who are rapidly on the upgrade. Magic Daze Took the noteable scalp of Dinoblue in her last race at Navan but that is a level below what is needed to win here. Prior to that win she ran extremely well in a valuable handicap at Fairyhouse behind Silver Klass. She has never been tried over this two-and-a-half mile trip so she has stamina questions to answer too. Galia Des Liteaux A mare who has competed at the highest level and was very well fancied to win the Kauto Star Novices' Chase before being pulled up when Harry Skelton felt something was amiss. She has been back on the track subsequently and won a Grade two race in a small field at Warwick in decisive fashion. The form has been franked subsequently by The Goffer and she can't be entirely ruled out of this. Zambella Often gives her running each time but her best has efforts to date suggest that she is not up to winning a race of this nature. She has run in this race twice in the past and was rewarded with a laboured fourth placed finish last year. Another year on and with younger rivals up against her, she really do look up against it. Dolcita A similar profile to Zambella in that she is a useful mare. She has been placed in graded races but never seems to find what is required to win. She will run her race yet again but ought to struggle against proven Grade two winners. Summary This looks a straightforward match between the two market leaders in Allegorie De Vassy and Impervious. Given that Willie Mullins has an unmatched record in teh race and the his mare acts on any surface, preference is for Allegorie De Vassy. She is clearly a very smart mare and can give her trainer a third consecutive win in the contest. The Brigadier
Allegorie De Vassy One of three runner here for Willie Mullins. Has to carry a 3lb penalty for a couple of grade two victories in Ireland winning both by 19L at odds on. A major player here with Paul Townend in the saddle but was jumping out to her right last time quite violently at times and won’t be able to do that here on this right handed track. Poor value at around 5/4. Elimay The second of Willie Mullins’ who also has to carry a 3lb penalty today. Mark Walsh rides for his retained owner JP McManus. Won this last year but not shown a great deal in two runs this season and sports first time blinkers here to try and spark her back into top form. Impervious Also owned by legendary owner/punter JP McManus and will be ridden by Brian Hayes who’s been on board her for 7 of her 9 career starts. Unbeaten in three starts over fences and officially rated the same as favourite Allegorie De Vassy. A lot going for her and can run well. Trained by Colm Murphy. Riviere D’etel Flopped at Carlisle last time and has questions to answer now. Trained by Gordon Elliott and will be ridden by Davy Russell. Dolcita The third Mullins runner. 8lb behind the top rated here and would need to improve to take a hand in the finish. Danny Mullins takes the ride. Jeremys Flame At todays weights is the best in and holds a great each way chance. Trained by Gavin Cromwell. A winner of 5 of her 17 races over fences with her latest victory at Huntingdon by 6 1/2L from rival Zambella possibly her best ever. A reproduction of that run should put her bang there. Keith Donoghue is in the saddle. Magic Daze Stepped up to win a listed chase at Naas last time by 3 3/4L from Dinoblue. Rachael Blackmore rides for trainer Henry De Bromhead. On ratings not got much to find and has a decent each way chance. Pink Legend Trained by Venetia Williams whose horses are not running well at present. Bounced back to form last time winning at Exeter but bit to find here and easy to avoid. Zambella Consistent chaser who has won 8 of her 16 runs over fences. Held by Jeremy’s Flame on latest run however and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ 8 year old may find a couple too good. Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase Tips Colm Murphy’s Impervious looks sure to run her race and is worth backing against the likely favourite Allegorie De Vassy who has a tendency to jump out to her right which will not suit this right handed track. Brian Hayes rides for JP McManus and can take this with Magic Daze a possible for the third place.
