Both sides will arguably be disappointed with their respective starts to this league campaign with Union Berlin and Freiburg leading the way early on but a victory here could kickstart their league form into action. Borussia Dortmund have undergone yet another off-season of re-invention after the sale of star striker Erling Haaland to Manchester City. The Black and Yellows have brought in RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi and Sebastien Haller from Ajax to fill the void left by the Norwegian but it's taking time for the transition to settle. Head coach Edin Terzic has led the team to 5 wins and 3 losses from their first 8 league games leaving the team down in 5th place. The club are already on the brink of qualifying for the last 16 in the Champions League after 2 wins from their 3 group stage games so continental performances offer optimism. Dortmund have won 3 of their 4 home league games so far this season and each of those victories have come by a 1-0 score-line. However, they have lost 2 of their last 3 league matches. Bayern Munich are undoubtedly the dominant club in German football having won the previous 10 league titles. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has had a mixed start to his tenure in charge at the club since joining from RB Leipzig last season. He did guide them to the Bundesliga title last season but they failed to win the Champions League and have started this league season with just 4 wins from their opening 8 league games leaving the club down in 3rd position. It's been rather straightforward in the Champions League so far though with 3 wins from 3 group stage games in a Group of Death that includes Inter Milan, Barcelona, and Viktoria Plzen. Each of those wins has come with a clean sheet too. It is just 1 win from the last 5 league matches though and even though 3 of those have been draws it's a concern for Nagelsmann that his team are not able to see teams off recently. This will be the 134th time that these two teams have met in the Der Klassiker and it's a fixture that Bayern Munich have dominated over recent seasons. The last victory for Borussia Dortmund in the league came at home back in 2018 in a 3-2 win. Since then, Bayern have won all 7 league encounters. The past 4 meetings have seen both teams score and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here. I'm tempted by the draw for this one though. I'm not sure Bayern are close to their best and Dortmund may well smell blood. I just don't think they have as strong a squad as they have done in recent years.
