StevieDay1983
Real Sociedad vs Villarreal The La Liga table is already shaping up for an interesting season this year with the title, European places, and relegation battle all looking hotly contested. Real Sociedad host Villarreal in a 5:30pm BST kick-off on Sunday evening from the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian. Both of these teams are loitering with intent just outside the European qualification places so a win would bring a fantastic boost to their morale at this early stage of the season. Real Sociedad have long been a team I've liked under Imanol Alguacil with the team constantly battling at the right end of the table under his stewardship. The White and Blues are once again showing signs of completing a solid season with the team in 7th place and only 2 points off the pace of the Champions League qualification spots. Not only does the team boast a number of class Spanish players such as captain Asier Illarremendi and winger Mikel Oyarzabal but they also added the talented Japanese attacker Takefusa Kubo to their ranks this summer. An inconsistent start to the campaign has been settled with back-to-back league wins over Espanyol at home and Girona away with the team scoring 7 goals in the process. The club also tops Group E in the Europa League after 3 wins from 3 games including victories over Manchester United away, Omonia at home, and Sheriff Tiraspol away. Scoring goals is clearly no problem for this talented attacking line-up. Keeping them out is where the frailties could unravel against better opposition. Villarreal are another team that have punched above their weight for a long while now. The Yellow Submarine currently sit in 8th position and just 1 point behind their opponents for this game. Unai Emery remains in charge of the club and their run to the Champions League semi-finals last season shows he just seems to have that magic touch with the Spanish teams. Villarreal do appear to have a squad packed with Premier League rejects including Pepe Reina, Juan Foyth, Kiko Femenia, Etienne Capoue, Francis Coquelin, Alberto Moreno, and Giovani Lo Celso. Still, just 1 loss from their opening 7 league games shows that Emery's personnel and tactics is working to an extent. Although it is now no win from their last 3 league games with just 1 goal scored in that run. It is 5 wins from 5 matches played in the Europa League, including qualification, so Emery is working is magic on the continent still. It's also just 1 loss from their 7 away games played in all competitions this season so they know how to grind out results on their travels. It's interesting to read that the most common score-line between these two teams is 1-1. I think they both possess enough attacking prowess to see a higher score here but I do agree that there's very little separating them in terms of ability and form. Real Sociedad have only won 4 of their last 22 home meetings with Villarreal with Villarreal picking up 10 wins in those encounters and 8 being draws. The last time Real Sociedad beat Villarreal at home was back in 2017. I wouldn't be surprised if these two teams cancelled each other out. Mrsha
Villarreal dnb @2.06 & o2.25 @1.86Min price to bet: dnb @2.00; o2.25 @1.80 or o2.5 @2.07Model +value: yesSignificant team news: Villareal's cf Moreno still unavailable; Sociedad still without quite a few players, including best player Oyarzabal (no games this season), but mostly same squad as in last few weeks, rb Gorosabel a doubtNote: Both teams won their UEL games on Thu, but Villarreal had a much easier game (5-0 home win v Austria Vienna), plus they rotated heavily (just 2 players from best 11 started) and didn't have to travel; while Sociedad had to make a long trip to Moldova and then struggled against very physical opponent, but found it a bit easier in 2nd half after the hosts Sheriff were reduced to 10 following a red card (2-0 Soc win). Sociedad played with 9 from their best 11 there, so no rest and long travel, clear advantage for Villarreal in terms of this congested schedule. Furthermore, Villarreal are the better side, they are behind Barca and Madrid, but on same level as Atletico, and we'd make this game in San Sebastian 50-50 (36.5%-27%-36.5%) if there was no UEL involvement on Thu; but in current circumstances we go with 39% away win, and we like this dnb offer on the visitors enough to take it. As for TG, Villarreal have a very strong defence, no doubt about that, but they should've scored a lot more goals so far, considering the number of chances they have created. Some of those you would have to see to believe, it's not even worth describing, especially first half against Betis, something like 4 times one-on-one with goalkeeper, if memory serves me well. Wastefulness upfront is the biggest reason for their run of just 1 win in last 5 La Liga games, but quality is there, even without cf Moreno, and goals will come, hopefully already tomorrow - Villarreal have created 21 big chances so far, which is the league-best, more than Real Madrid and Barca. As for Sociedad, they've been very defensive/pragmatic side in last couple of season, but seem to be a bit more open now, and they are also creating, currently 4th in La Liga in big chances created. They have scored in all 10 official games this season, while both teams have scored in all of their 4 official games at home; their last 3 in the league have all gone over 2.5 line with both teams scoring; and both teams have scored in each of last 6 meetings between Sociedad and Villarreal (last 3 seasons). Villarreal are unbeaten in last 4 visits here, with 3 wins, and we believe this price on them should be lower, they should be small favs tomorrow.
