StevieDay1983
Rayo Vallecano vs Elche The La Liga action for this weekend spills over into Monday evening with the 8pm BST kick-off between two (for want of a better word!) unfashionable sides in Rayo Vallecano and Elche from the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas in Madrid. The home team will be looking to build on a solid start to their campaign against a visiting side that are currently residing in the bottom berth of the league table. Rayo Vallecano are looking to consolidate their place in the Spanish top flight this season after a 12th placed finish last year and it's all going according to plan so far. Head coach Andoni Iraola has led his team to 12th position in the table with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses until now. Unfortunately, it is 3 losses from their last 4 league games but there have been enough signs in the two wins over Espanyol and Valencia and the draw with Barcelona to suggest this team has what it takes to retain mid-table mediocrity. Recent games involving the Red Sashes have seen at least 2.5 goals scored in their last 3 outings so it's becoming common for their games to be packed with goals. The defensive stability days of the two clean sheets that opened their league campaign seem long gone with the team now without a clean sheet in 4 league matches. Elche could not have anticipated a much worse start to their league season. Head coach Francisco did enough to keep the team mid-table last season but the club is now rooted to 20th place after 6 league games without a win to their name so far. The Green-Striped Ones have struggled at both ends of the pitch with 16 goals conceded and just 2 goals scored. The team has now drawn a blank in 3 of their previous 4 league matches. They have also now conceded 11 goals in their last 3 league games. In fairness, it hasn't been the easiest start to a campaign with the opponents they've had but as the wait for that first win goes on it becomes seemingly harder for them to earn it. The gap to safety is already 4 points and failure to get a point here will see the pressure begin to pile on Francisco who now only has a win percentage of 36.36% with the team. Everything here is pointing to a Rayo Vallecano win. They might have suffered from a bit of inconsistency but they're up against an Elche team that look very frail at the back and very impotent up top. It's not going to take a lot for the Elche back-line to be breached and then they must do what they have yet to do all season and that's score a goal on their travels. It's going to take a big trend being bucked for Rayo to not win this one.
