Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea
Sunday heralds the buzz of the huge EFL Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool. Chelsea are on a six-game winning streak, and they had defeated Tottenham in the semis, over two legs. They have also fared decently in recent weeks as they beat Lille 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie at Stamford Bridge in their latest outing. Barring the Citizens, they have conceded the least number of goals in the competition.

Liverpool
Liverpool have been in red hot form of late. They've clawed their way back into the Premier League title race. The Reds are placed second in the English Premier League, and they have lost just twice all through the campaign. They are on a nine-game winning streak across all competitions and are unbeaten in their last 12 matches. Liverpool thrashed Leeds United 6-0 in midweek and have the wind in their sails heading into the final on Sunday

Prediction
With Salah in the form, Liverpool's potent attackers are simply too good to ignore. Chelsea have also looked formidable in the League Cup, however, even their sturdy backline will have a hard time trying to quell Liverpool's attack. So, predict Liverpool to be unbeaten at least.

Chelsea to Win with AH -1.5
Final Results: 2-0

Chelsea vs Liverpool

The EFL Cup Final is set to take place on Sunday afternoon in a 4:30pm GMT kick-off from Wembley Stadium in London when Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool go toe-to-toe. This used to be a competition that the bigger teams didn't take so seriously but in recent years Manchester City's dominance has added some value to it again. This year it'll go to a different winner for the first time since 2015.

Chelsea will be keen to add another trophy to the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup when they head into this game. Roman Abramovich announced he was passing the stewardship of the club onto trustees after Russia's appalling decision to invade Ukraine. What impact that will have on the day-to-day running of the club isn't known but we'll see. The Blues have a chance to win this trophy for the sixth time with only Manchester City and Liverpool winning it more times. Thomas Tuchel's team can also become the first EFL Cup winners to eliminate a top flight team in every round played having knocked out Aston Villa, Southampton, Brentford, and Tottenham. Interestingly, Chelsea haven't been behind in any of their last 7 EFL Cup matches. Tuchel has stated that Romelu Lukaku has trained well and could be in line for a start. Reece James is also nearing fitness so there's a chance that he could be included in the squad.

Liverpool are hoping to take their impressive form into this cup final to earn a record-breaking 9th trophy win in this competition. The Reds have already seen off the likes of Norwich, Preston, Leicester, and Arsenal to reach this stage. Unfortunately, their last win in a final of this competition did come at the expense of my Cardiff team back in 2021. What a bloody dramatic day that was though! Jurgen Klopp may or may not be aware that 4 of the last 5 EFL Cup finals involving Liverpool went to extra-time. It's also an ominous statistic that Liverpool are without a win in their last 5 matches at Wembley Stadium when it was a neutral venue. It'll be interesting to see if Klopp keeps faith with Takumi Minamino who is the top scorer in this competition so far with 4 goals or will he revert to his first team players? Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota are both still ruled out.

This will be just the second time that Chelsea have been set to play Liverpool in an EFL Cup Final. The previous time was back in 2005 when Chelsea beat Liverpool 3-2 after extra-time. I think it's fair to say that both teams were in different places back then. Liverpool have only managed 1 win in their last 5 EFL Cup matches against Chelsea when they have met in other rounds before the final. It was also Chelsea who won the last meeting between the two sides at Wembley Stadium which came in the 2012 FA Cup Final with Chelsea winning 2-1. I think I have to say I think this will be a close one and wouldn't be surprised to see this one go the distance.
