Daria Saville to beat Magdalena Frech at 1.90 with BetVictor

Saville looked very decent against Rakhimova yesterday and she generally seems to be growing in confidence after returning from the COVID break. She showed a good level in Guadalajara as well, while Frech has several not-so-good results recently. You can't reach much into her win over Parks yesterday either, as Parks had a long week in ITF Arcadia, losing in the finals on Sunday.

Arantxa Rus to beat Katie Volynets at 1.60 with BetVictor

I've been rather disappointed with Volynets lately, she hasn't had any good results despite showing some promise very early on in the season. It just seems that she isn't ready to compete at the highest level, while Rus certainly is. She had a decent showing last week and just hasn't been losing to players of Volynets' level so far in this season.

Irina Begu to beat Katerina Siniakova at 2.08 with Pinnacle

Everything above 1.80 is worth taking on Begu imo. The surface in Indian Wells is rather slow and, watching some of the matches, I find it hard to believe that Siniakova will be able to hit through Begu consistently. She's the one more likely to make the first unforced errors in longer rallies and their forms are comparable or with a small edge for Begu. Siniakova has gone off the boil so far in this season and I'm not sure why she's the favorite at all.

I'm backing three in Indian Wells today. First I'll take Coric to beat Davidovich Fokina. He's not played since last year and that's factored into his price, but I think it's been factored in a little too much. The conditions should help Davidovich Fokina and he should be the favourite, but I can't have him as short as he is. I'll also back Eubanks to beat Cressy. He's got two solid wins in qualifying behind him, whilst Cressy has lost his last three and his form has - not surprisingly - tailed off after a strong start to the season. Finally I'm going with Linette over Petkovic in what should be a very even match. I give Linette the slightest of edges as the conditions seem to suit her better, as evidenced by her better record at this tournament compared to Petkovic.

10pts Coric to beat Davidovich Fokina @ 4.00 365

30pts Eubanks to beat Cressy @ 2.63 Boyles

25pts Linette to beat Petkovic @ 2.00 365

Angelique Kerber to beat Qinwen Zheng at 1.88 with Pinnacle

While Zheng is clearly talented, her scoreline from R1 hides the fact that she was quite erratic from the back of the baseline. Without that serve firing, she's very vulnerable and the conditions in Indian Wells aren't that great for the bigger hitters it seems.

Started off with some bad luck when Coric failed to serve out his match and then never won another game, then had some good when Eubanks saved match points before beating Cressy in three. Petko never took to the court for some reason, meaning Linette played Sharma. With Sharma winning in straight sets that might have been some more good luck.

Not much time so just a few words about who I'm backing today. I'm starting with Daniel to beat Murray, as the price for him to win bearing in mind he beat him recently at the AO is just too big. Then I'm backing Nakashima as he's a justified favourite in conditions that his opponent Mannarino will not like.

60pts Daniel to beat Murray @ 3.50 Victor

35pts Nakashima to beat Mannarino @ 1.73 Boyles

Not a great season so far, but I'll keep digging as always.

Tereza Martincova (+4.5) to beat Paula Badosa at 1.93 with Pinnacle

This one I actually like a lot, Martincova was on fire against Watson, serving well despite the tricky conditions and she was punishing from the baseline as well, some great hitting. She has a 3-0 record over Badosa as well, though it is aging by now. If Badosa starts a bit slowly, she'll be in for some trouble and I think that Martincova can keep things tight even if Badosa plays her decent standard.

Daniel was looking good after winning the first set and then again at 3-1 in the decider, unfortunately though after that he only won one more game. Got a run for my money though and the way the match went suggests I was right to think Daniel was too big. Nakashima won easily enough so that was some consolation.

On to today and again there's not much time until play starts. I'm taking three singles and then one short price treble - all with 365 - starting with Brooksby to beat Khachanov. On a faster surface I might be in two minds about this match, but as it is I think Brooksby deserves to be favourite as he's got more to his game than Khachanov does and that's usually rewarded on slower surfaces like this one. Then I'm backing Van Uytvanck against Rybakina. She's been playing well recently and Rybakina has been dealing with some physical issues so the price on Van Uytvanck appeals. My final single is a bit of a punt as I'm going to take Saville to beat Jabeur. Her ranking is completely false and she's had plenty of wins so far this season including three here. This is Jabeur's first match of the tournament so Saville might be able to catch her cold. As for the treble, I can't see too many problems for any of Nadal, Kyrgios or Vika. Korda is far too inconsistent on serve to trouble Nadal, Kyrgios looks as though he's motivated and having just flattened one clay court player he should be able to take care of Delbonis easily enough. Vika should also be beating Sharma who's fairly limited.

30pts Brooksby to beat Khachanov @ 1.90

25pts Van Uytvanck to beat Rybakina @ 3.20

20pts Saville to beat Jabeur @ 5.00

10pts Nadal (vs. Korda) x Kyrgios (vs. Delbonis) x Azarenka (vs. Sharma) @ 1.56

Angelique Kerber to beat Daria Kasatkina at 2.00 with Unibet

Going to back Kerber again, she looked decent in her first round, while Kasatkina struggled to get past Volynets. I didn't see that match, but Volynets hasn't impressed me ever since she got a couple of reasonable results back in Australia. Kerber is also mentally stronger I feel, Kasatkina has already had some blow-outs this year.

A few matches I do like today.

Schwartzman to beat Ruusovouri. Perfect match up for Schwartzman, on a slowish court. Should suite him well. Odds of 1.61 quite generous here.

For me Kudermetova  beats Buzkova quite handily, and I find a price of  1.8 really good.

I also like  Cirstea to beat Anna Kalinskaya. Cirstea definitely in form and flying at the moment. She looks a very good athlete and very comfortable with her game at the moment. Price of 1.57 is good.

Will take the above treble and a double of Cirstea and Schawartzman.

3 Low priced matches : Di Minaur v Millman. Di Minuar having beaten Millman in each of the last 3 meetings and I expect a repeat of the medicine here.  For me Sam Querry is almost coming to the end of his career. Very similar stage to Kevin Andersen, where the results are just not flowing. I expect Isner to dispatch him relatively easily. 3rd low price of the day is Taylor Fritz to beat Kamil Majchrzak. Fritz at home will be very comfortable , and should win easily.

The above 3 as a treble (Fritz, Di Minaur, Isner)

I do  see some upsets today. I just don't see Kerber beating an in form Kasatkina. I would be scared to put 1 cent on Lloyd Harris at the moment. He is playing really poor tennis, and also lost a Davis cup match last week for South Africa. I think that Aslan Karatsev is on the edge of a mini melt down. 1) He had this amazing break out year last year, and has been defending too many ranking points. It creates huge pressure . 2) The guys has been playing so many matches, and I think he probably needs a break for 4 weeks to recharge and recuperate. Looks flat to me.

F.Bagnis to beat L.Harris @2.55 (local bookie Soccerbet)

Harris is tragic since the start of the season. Last weekend he struggled big against Israel in Davic Cup. He won (very close match) against No.659 and then lost to No.350 in ATP rankings..Bagnis is clay court specialist, but conditions in IW are very slow so that could give him a solid chance against a player completely out of shape..great value odds.

Turned out to be a good day, but as is often the case that was largely down to good fortune. Jabeur could easily have won in straight sets, having served for each of the first two sets. Having said that, Saville had multiple match points for a straight sets win of her own, albeit on return.

The treble should have gone down on the very first leg as Nadal went from comfortably a set up to a double break down in the deciding set of his match. I was definitely wrong about Korda being able to cause Nadal problems, but the assessment about his fragile serve proved to be correct in the end. Nadal is obviously very good on return and even more so on a slower court, but Korda should have been able to serve out the match and he had two chances to do so. The other legs came in easily enough, with both Vika and Kyrgios easing to straight sets wins.

Brooksby beat Khachanov even more easily than I expected - odds on a first set bagel for Brooksby must have been pretty high - but Van Uytvanck was soundly beaten by Rybakina. It might have been a different story if she'd been able to take one or two of the numerous break points she created, but even then Rybakina was the better player and deserved the win.
