Despite what has happened to Kokkinakis in the past, this is the beginning of the season and at least it looks like he will hold up physically till the end of this very tournament. We also know what his ability is when on song. I think he is a very attractive bet. Happy New Year all! Anisimova beat Begu despite losing the first set and Khachanov and Barty made it through, but Tauson retired in her match and my Poland bet was nixed when Majchrzak couldn't take to the court in the first rubber after a positive Covid test - hopefully Canada will be able to put up a good showing against Russia. Paul and Halep - two outrights that I posted previously - experienced contrasting fortunes, with Paul losing limply to Monfils and Halep just about getting the better of Golubic in a match featuring 40! break points. Torque
As tournaments reach the last four stage, I'm adding a few more outrights. I'm replacing the Paul bet with a bet on Kokkinakis - as I've said before I'm not convinced by him, but at the same time I don't trust Monfils to beat him at such a short price. If Kokkinakis makes the final, the outright price will look good. Ahead of the last ATP Cup semi-final, I'm going to back Spain to take the title. If Canada beat Russia - and I think there's a good chance of that - then the price for Spain to win should drop. I don't have any strong feeling about who'll come out on top in Melbourne, except that Nadal is a vulnerable favourite based on performances so far. Having said that I'm not convinced Ruusuvuori will be able to beat him. Cressy has done well this week and his serve and volley style has caused problems for everyone he's played, so I'm putting a small stake on him. In Adelaide, I'm already on Barty but I want to cover that with a bet on Rybakina who's in the other half of the draw. She should make the final and I'll be hoping it's against Barty, but if it isn't then at least I'll have an interest in the final. Last of all I'm going back in on Halep in Melbourne as she's still a nice price to win bearing in mind she's favoured to win her semi - perhaps it's to do with her struggles in the last round - and she's more than capable of giving Osaka a match if that's who she meets in the final. If it's Kudermetova, Halep should be the favourite. 10pts Kokkinakis to win ATP Adelaide @ 7.08 Betfair Exchange 45pts Spain to win ATP Cup @ 1.89 Betfair Exchange 2pts Cressy to win ATP Melbourne @ 12.27 Betfair Exchange 25pts Rybakina to win WTA Adelaide @ 4.00 Betfair Sportsbook 60pts Halep to win WTA Melbourne Summer Set 1 @ 2.88 Betfair Exchange four-leaf, Robinnho and CzechPunter

CzechPunter
Tomas Machac to beat Bjorn Fratangelo at 1.61 with William Hill Not only is Machac already the better player of the two, but Fratangelo will have a hill to climb after yesterday. He played an absolute epic against Krueger, going to 3 TBs. This could very well be similar to Kokkinakis who simply ran out of steam today. mark22 and Torque 1

It'll be Monfils v Khachanov in the Adelaide final where I'll be cheering for Khachanov and it's Spain v Canada in the ATP Cup final where I'll be hoping for a Spain win which would give me a small profit. If Canada win then I'll suffer a loss. Cressy plays Nadal in the Melbourne final - you'd expect a Nadal win but he's really not been convincing in his matches this week. He also does not enjoy playing against serve and volley tennis like Cressy plays, so maybe a shock is possible. Very small loss if Nadal prevails in any case. Rybakina won through to the Adelaide final where she'll face Barty so that's a guaranteed profit. Halep plays Kudermetova in the Melbourne Summer Set 1 final after Osaka pulled out of the tournament with a niggle, so I'll be hoping she justifies favouritism and takes the title for a good profit. I have to say it was nice to be on the right side of an Osaka withdrawal for once - one of the reasons I flagged her up as worth opposing due to the chance she wouldn't complete the tournament is because I've been on the wrong side of that more than once in the past. Torque
After Khachanov lost, Canada won, Cressy lost and Barty and Halep won it's been a very good week. It definitely won't be like that every week though and a week like this will go some way to covering the bad weeks when they come.
