Wigan vs Swindon

The final round of action in League 1 is coming up on Saturday with meaningless game between Wigan and Swindon in a midday BST kick-off from the DW Stadium being my focus of attention. It's a game of mixed emotions with the hosts celebrating somehow staying up in the third tier of English football as they play an already-relegated visiting team.

Wigan were looking in deep trouble earlier this season under the management of Leam Richardson and then John Sheridan. However, bizarrely, it has been Richardson's second spell in charge that has sparked a resurgence that has ended in survival for the Latics. Just 1 defeat in their previous 6 league games including 4 wins has helped to propel the Lancashire side up to 20th and 4 points clear of the drop zone with one game remaining. Home form towards the tail end of the season has been crucial as Wigan have lost just 1 of their last 6 home league matches.

Swindon are facing the grim reality of life back in League 2 next season. It's been a disrupted season with the Robins seeing four men at the helm over the course of the campaign... including Sheridan as well. Wow, he must be feeling really positive about his impact on League 1 clubs this season! Swindon are down in 23rd place and they'll simply want to aim to avoid finishing bottom with 24th placed Bristol Rovers just 2 points behind them. Tommy Wright is the current man in charge but it's now been 7 defeats from their last 8 league games and it's hard to see how this club is going to turn things around over the summer to transform Swindon into a promotion battling side again.

I have to back Wigan to get the win here. They have generally been in superb form over the last half a dozen league games and their performances at home have been key in helping them to stay up. Swindon look short on confidence and quality. Even more so away from home where they have lost their last 4 outings. It'll be a low key affair but it seems decent value backing the solid Wigan win.

Tranmere vs Colchester

The League 2 season draws to a close on Sunday with all games kicking off at 3pm BST. I'm looking at the clash between play-off chasing Tranmere and lower mid-table Colchester at Prenton Park. A play-off adventure awaits for the home side if they can avoid defeat here and even then they'll still need Exeter and Forest Green Rovers to both win to deny them. The away side are simply going through the motions on this final day with nothing to play for.

Tranmere have enjoyed a positive season with the club currently positioned well in 6th place. A dramatic gate crash of the automatic promotion spots has slipped away but they are looking good value to reach the play-offs. It was a dodgy start to the campaign under Mike Jackson but owner Mark Palios made the shrewd decision to replace him with current manager Keith Hill showing exactly why he's so revered at this level. The club's form has become a little bit more inconsistent during the final stages of this season but Rovers have lost just 1 of their last 4 league games and kept three clean sheets during that period. Another clean sheet here will seal their play-off spot.

Colchester will just want this season to be over. The U's are down in 20th and you have to say it's what they deserve after they sacked former manager John McGreal for guiding the club to the play-offs last season. A season of unsettlement has led to the team plummeting down the league table with three managers given the chance to turn things around. Former Crystal Palace midfielder Hayden Mullins is the man currently leading the team and things seem to be looking more optimistic. No win in his first three games has been forgotten about due to the club earning 3 wins from their last 4 league games. However, all of those wins came at home and the club is without a win on the road in their last 14 attempts.

If the respective home and away form wasn't enough to have you throwing your money behind Tranmere then you'll also want to see that Tranmere are now undefeated in their last 7 encounters with Colchester including 5 victories. It was back on 26th September, 2008 when Colchester last beat Tranmere at Prenton Park so I'm going to have to back the home team to get the job done here.

Hibs have had the better of Utd this season in general with a couple of wins and draws, however there is tremendous value in taking the massive price on Utd.

Utd's change to a 433 brings them into the game as a form team and imo Gogic being suspended for hibs in the middle of the park is a loss to them.   I'm not saying Hibs wont win however this game is tighter than the odds suggest and the 4.75 currently on offer is real value.

Im putting a bet on dundee utd to win with a cover bet of over 2.5 goals
