StevieDay1983
Charlton vs Swindon The League One games give us a match between two former Premier League clubs at 3pm GMT on Saturday afternoon when play-off chasing Charlton host relegation-threatened Swindon at the Valley. It seems a life time ago that these two sides were in the top flight of English football but they're experiencing contrasting league campaigns so far. Charlton are currently in 6th place in League One and occupying the last of the coveted play-off spots. Lee Bowyer remains in charge of the East London club but his team are faltering at the moment. The Addicks have only managed to get 1 win from their last 7 league games. That poor run has been contributed to by an inconsistent home record that has worsened over recent games. It's now no win in their last 3 league games at the Valley. Just 1 clean sheet being kept in their last 10 league games with 18 goals conceded during that period shows that the defence is in dire need of tightening. Swindon had big aspirations coming into this season after winning the League Two title last season. However, things haven't quite worked out too positively so far. The Robins suffered a poor start to the season. Manager Richie Wellens departed the club for Salford City and results haven't really improved under new gaffer John Sheridan. The club are down in 23rd place and 2 points adrift of safety. 7 losses from their 10 away league games this season shows how their form on the road is pretty poor. Recent form is also concerning with just 1 win in their last 8 league matches including 6 defeats. Neither of these two teams will be pleased with their current form but they're miles apart in terms of their performance levels over the course of the season so far. The big difference recently, even in their poor runs, has been that Charlton are still making themselves tough to beat where as Swindon are struggling to even pick up the odd draw as the defeats keep on coming. I can see a solid home win here as Swindon drift ever closer to an immediate return to League Two. StevieDay1983
Cambridge United vs Bradford City The game I want to focus on in League Two in between two clubs that I've always felt have been sleeping giants to a certain degree. Cambridge United play Bradford City in a 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday afternoon. The home side are enjoying life in the fourth tier of English football this season as they are hoping to earn promotion but the visiting team continue to toil at the wrong end of the table. Cambridge United sit proudly on top of the League Two table heading into this game. Head coach Mark Bonner's side are only 1 point clear at the summit with their chasing rivals all boasting games in hand. The U's had experienced a sticky patch of failing to win in 5 league games during a dour run in November and December but that seems an age ago now with the team currently unbeaten in their last 4 league games with 3 wins coming in that period. Defensive issues will still be niggling Bonner with the club failing to shut out the opposition in their last 15 league matches. The last clean sheet coming in a 2-0 win away against Walsall back on 27th October, 2020. The last clean sheet at home coming even further back on 26th September, 2020 in a 0-0 draw with Tranmere. Bradford City are a long way from their heady days in the Premier League but a club that represents a city that has a population of over half a million people really shouldn't be where they are now. Mark Trueman's side are in 19th place and just 3 points above the relegation zone. It was sad to see the club legend Stuart McCall lose his job but the club have won 3 and drawn 2 of their 5 league games since his departure. Unfortunately, the Bantams haven't played a competitive game since 29th December, 2020. You have to wonder how that break will have affected the sharpness of the players and it came at a terrible time just as they were finding a bit of form with their new manager bounce. I have to say that Bradford City were beginning to look like a side that could go flying up the table after McCall left. Cambridge United have made their way out of that slump at the back end of 2020 and now look well set to make a serious push for automatic promotion. I just fear that Bradford's postponed fixtures due to covid-19 came at the worst time possible. Both teams have scored in each of Cambridge United's last 6 league wins and I can see it being a similar outcome here. allyhibs
Hibernian v St Johnstone. Strong starting 11 and a strong bench for Hibs in the League Cup Semi final this evening, St Johnstone are a decent side but I think Hibs just edge it. The odds on the Hibs win have been creeping upwards today and look good value now, it's a max bet for me. Hibs @ 2.60 - 4 pts.
