Coventry vs Birmingham

The tears of Northern Irish fans and the hangovers of joyous Scottish and Welsh supporters have hardly had time to subside and we're already now back to thinking about domestic football. Championship football returns on Friday night and it's the St Andrew's derby between current tenants Coventry and their landlords Birmingham in a 7:45pm GMT kick-off.

Coventry are understandably finding life in the second tier of English football difficult after promotion from League One last season. Mark Robins has seen his team just about stay above the relegation zone after 11 league games with 8 points so far accumulated. That puts them 1 point above the bottom. However, with Sheffield Wednesday's points deduction reduced to just 6 points and the Owls building up their points tally the pressure is building. The Sky Blues have lost 6 of their last 8 league games but the most worrying stat is the 23 goals they have conceded so far this season. That's 4 more than the next worst defence in the division. They've also conceded 13 of those in their last 5 league games.

Birmingham fans could be forgiven for thinking life under new manager Aitor Karanka might have been different this season. Unfortunately, it appears it's not. The Blues are still a team battling at the wrong end of the table down in 17th place with just 13 points earned after 11 league matches. Back-to-back defeats in the league just before the international break ended an unbeaten run of 3 league games. On the plus side, Karanka has made Birmingham a tough side to beat. All 4 of their defeats have only been by a single goal and they've only conceded 11 goals so far. Sadly, the fact they've only scored 9 goals this campaign shows you exactly where their problems lie. Is that likely to change with Scott Hogan and Lukas Jutkiewicz as their only options leading the line? They can't rely on wide man Jeremie Bela for all their goals.

If there's one thing I'm certain of in this game it's that both teams will be adopting a cautious approach. It will feel like a home game for both teams and without the fans present there is that certain sterility to it which is a shame. I think due to that you have to back Birmingham to get the narrow win here against a Coventry team who are showing the potential to take points off the odd team but, at the moment, it's not looking like it'll be good enough over the course of 46 games.

Millwall vs Cardiff

OK, so I thought I'd bite the bullet and get this week's Cardiff preview up. This weekend, we're playing Millwall away in a 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday afternoon at the Den. The home side have enjoyed a very positive start to their new campaign with the play-offs firmly in their sights and they'll be looking to build on that progress against a visiting team that are struggling to find consistency this season.

Millwall find themselves in 9th place and just 2 points outside the play-offs. Gary Rowett has turned the Lions into a dangerous side in this division now. Just 1 defeat in their last 7 league games has seen them hover around the top six. 4 clean sheets in their last 6 games including not conceding a goal in over 180 minutes of league action shows how resilient this Millwall back-line has become. The 3-0 loss at home to Huddersfield a few weeks back certainly appears an anomaly. Their home record suggests the Den isn't quite the same hostile venue without the fans there. Millwall have only managed 1 win from their 5 home league matches this season.

Cardiff were dealt disappointing news this week that creative midfielder Lee Tomlin is ruled out for a number of months after surgery. It means us Bluebirds fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see the dream attacking midfield trio of Tomlin, Harry Wilson, and Sheyi Ojo in action together. Neil Harris had come under fire with the team drifting towards the relegation zone after a poor run of results. The 3-0 win over Barnsley at home looking like a false dawn with the team following up that result with a dour 1-0 loss at home to Bristol City in the Severnside derby just before the international break. It's now just 1 win in 6 league matches for Cardiff who are now down in 15th and only 6 points outside the bottom three.

I'm just not sure what to make of Cardiff this season. We have periods where we look like a really decent team but then we also have spells where we look clueless. I'm not sure Kieffer Moore brings the best out of us. We seem to go more route one when he's starting. Robert Glatzel certainly seems to link play better and makes more intelligent runs that bring the best out of our attacking midfielders. Harris doesn't appear to have worked that out yet though and it's led to us playing more like we did in the final days of Neil Warnock. I'm optimistic we can get a draw here but that's only because Millwall haven't been great at home. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost either though. I'd be astonished if we won! :lol

I´m on @StevieDay1983here with the Draw in Milwall-Cardiff Game.

Also i play a Double with Brentford and Swansea to Win. Think both have must Wining Games if they want the Play Off Places this Season.

Also i play with smal Stake my Potters. Yes both GK are out and today youngster Bursik was recalled from Doncaster where they was on Loan. But O´Neil i think now slowly changed the Way of Stoke´s Future. They played in last Weeks against strong Teams and played well. The Performance are better and with Cambell and Fletcher up Front they have i think one of the best Striker Duo in League. Without them for example they played not so good and they lost with a bad Performance 0-2 at Swansea.

2 Bets won here, but Brentford crushed the Double. It will be interessting to see how Brentford´s Performance will be in next Weeks....

Brentford are a strange one at the moment. Always in with a shout when you have a 30-goal a season striker like Ivan Toney but this team has so many flaws that they can't always rely on him to bail them out.
