Real Madrid vs Inter

The hosts are still winless after two rounds, and they are unexpectedly positioned at the bottom of the table. Shakhtar stunned Los Blancos in the opening round with a 3:2 victory in Madrid, while the home side was on the verge of the new defeat in Monchengladbach. Borussia had a 2:0 lead just minutes before the end of the game, which eventually ended in a draw. With only one point won so far, Real Madrid faces an early pressure of failing to reach the knockout stage. Luckily for Zinedine Zidane and his players, the opponents are not too far, as Inter and Borussia Monchengladbach are just one point ahead. Karim Benzema and the lads enter this game after a 4:1 victory over Huesca in La Liga last weekend. After more than a year, Eden Hazard’s first goal, which brought them the lead, is definitely something encouraging.

After two opening wins in Serie A, Inter faces a slight drop in form. Accidentally, or not, that matches the time of Romelu Lukaku’s absence due to an injury. The visitors managed to celebrate just once in the last four rounds of the domestic competition. Although Antonio Conte’s side is very productive in front of the oppositions’ net, they need to improve their defensive work. Last weekend, the away side was very close to being defeated by Parma, but Ivan Perisic’s stoppage-time goal saved them a point. If they want to remain title contenders, Neroazzuri need to stabilize their performances and stop spilling points against weaker teams. Inter hasn’t been too convincing in the Champions League as well, as they picked up a point from each of the first two matches. The Belgian international is doubtful for this clash as well, and we will see how Inter will cope with that setback.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

A real derby clash is ahead of us, not just because of the big names facing each other but also because both sides need a victory in their campaigns to finish at one of the top two spots in the group. Real Madrid is in a bit better momentum, and we think they should be capable of snatching all three points from this one.

Goals Market Prediction

Both teams have immense attacking potential, and we can expect a very efficient clash. Therefore, we won’t be surprised if we see the goals in both nets.

Manchester City vs Olympiakos

Our Champions League double header previews on a Tuesday and Wednesday continue this week with Manchester City playing Olympiakos in an 8pm GMT kick-off at the Etihad Stadium. Group C has gone to plan for the home team so far but they face Greek opposition that has already picked up one win in this group and have proven they will be stern opposition at best.

Manchester City have got 2 wins in 2 matches in this group and top the table. Pep Guardiola will be pleased with his side's performance so far and it's now 13 games unbeaten for the Citizens in group stage games in this competition. They also face an Olympiakos team that has lost 14 of their last 16 away matches in European competition in England. Manager Pedro Martins won't want to know that only Barcelona and Porto have conceded more goals than Olympiakos in this competition when playing in England.

I think this game is one of those where you can feel confident that Manchester City will win this one. Kevin De Bruyne is back and this is the sort of game where he will pick apart the opposition. Olympiakos know their record in England isn't the best and they'll no doubt come to defend. I fear that they'll struggle to keep this City attack at bay though and I'm not sure I can see the Greek team scoring.

Atalanta vs Liverpool

The second part of this extended preview is the clash between Italian side Atalanta and reigning Premier League champions Liverpool in an 8pm GMT kick-off at the Gewiss Stadium. This is a huge opportunity for both of these sides to give their chances of winning Group D a massive boost. The winning side will take the lead role in this group at the halfway stage.

Atalanta have gone unbeaten in their last 5 group stage games in the Champions League. Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has turned his team into potential Serie A title challengers and they have taken 4 points from their two group games so far this season against Ajax and FC Midtjylland. Liverpool are still facing a defensive crisis but Joel Matip and Naby Keita face late fitness tests. Jurgen Klopp has lost each one of his three away games in Europe against Italian sides as Liverpool manager but his team have won each of their last 3 away games in this competition.

I'm anticipating a tough game for Liverpool here. Atalanta have become mean opposition for even the toughest and experienced of opponents. I can see this being a game that will test every aspect of the English side's set-up. Given their defensive fragility they'll need to use their attack as their best form of defence. That could be a dangerous tactic against an Italian team that has scored 23 goals in 8 competitive games this season.

RB Leipzig vs PSG

The home side had an excellent start to the Bundesliga campaign as they failed to win just once in the opening five rounds. Additionally, they proceeded in the DFB Pokal without any trouble and celebrated in the premier game of the Champions League against Basaksehir. However, Julian Nagelsmann’s side tied two defeats, one against Manchester United, and the other against Borussia Monchengladbach. The latter one made them slip down from the top spot in the domestic championship. The one at Old Trafford was pretty convincing as the Bulls lost 5:0. Except for that game, RB Leipzig’s defense has been pretty tight, as they conceded only four goals. On the other hand, Emil Forsberg and the lads have been pretty efficient in the final third. However, the hosts failed to score on the last two occasions, and they want to break that negative run in this match.

PSG had a slow start in the new season after losing in the Champions League finals. They tied two defeats in Ligue 1 but managed to improve and enter an excellent streak of seven wins in a row. Kylian Mbappe and the lads improved their work in front of the oppositions’ net and became lethal for the rival goalkeepers. However, they suffered a surprising defeat against Manchester United in the opening round of this competition. Thomas Tuchel’s side struggled a bit away to Basaksehir, but the visitors managed to get back home with all three points thanks to a 2:0 win. PSG enters this clash after a 3:0 win over Nantes last weekend, and they want to keep up with good performances.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

These two sides met each other in the CL semi-finals last season, and PSG celebrated an easy 3:0 win. The hosts want revenge, but we don’t think they can do more than winning a point.

Goals Market Prediction

RB Leipzig wants to end their goal drought, and they are capable of scoring against any team. We believe this is going to be an efficient clash in which both sides can find the back of the opposition’s net.

Istanbul Basaksehir vs Manchester United

An early kick-off awaits us in the Champions League tonight with the 5:55pm GMT kick-off between Turkish Super Lig side Istanbul Basaksehir and Premier League club Manchester United at the Fatih Terim Stadium in Istanbul for this Group H clash. The home team desperately need a victory against a visiting side that have been pretty impressive in this competition so far.

Istanbul Basaksehir currently sit bottom of the group with two defeats from their opening two games. It's probably not unexpected given they've faced RB Leipzig and PSG but Okan Buruk has witnessed a valiant effort from his side in both matches. This will be the Turkish side's second encounter with English clubs on English soil. Their only previous experience was a 1-0 loss away to Burnley in the 2018/19 Europa League qualification. Manchester United have been in fine fettle with two wins over PSG and RB Leipzig. League form might be missing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side but they're thriving in Europe. However, the Red Devils have lost their last two away games against Turkish teams in Europe but are aiming to win their first three games of the Champions League group phase for the ninth time.

This will be the first meeting between these two clubs and it's a tricky one. Istanbul Basaksehir are a notoriously stubborn team to face but this is a Manchester United side that have been playing with freedom in Europe. If Solskjaer can release that liberated feeling amongst his players as he did for their stunning wins over PSG and RB Leipzig then they should make it three wins on the bounce. They have made a habit of going against my tips though so we'll see!

Chelsea vs Rennes

The final part of our double header previews covering the English sides in the Champions League is the 8pm GMT kick-off between Chelsea and Ligue 1 side Rennes at Stamford Bridge in Group E. This group is still finely poised with only 3 points separating top and bottom but that gap could widen up if results end up going a certain way this evening.

Chelsea have picked up 4 points from their opening 2 group matches so far. The Blues have only lost 1 of their 9 home games against French sides in this competition. It's also just 1 loss in their last 15 home games in the Champions League. Frank Lampard has built his team's tactics in Europe around a solid defence and it's been two clean sheets so far. Rennes have lost both of their last two visits on English soil in Europe. Defending also appears to be a big issue for Julien Stephan's men with the club having kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 12 European games. It's also now 5 games without a win in European competition for Les Rennais.

I'm fairly sure that even though Chelsea are set to be without Christian Pulisic for this game that they have enough in the tank to get the solid win here. The signing of keeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes a few weeks ago could add a bit of spice but he's certainly had a positive influence on the Blues back-line. I can see them winning by a couple of goals here.

@DrO, it's unreal that a set of professional footballers can play like that. Manchester United seemingly just struggle if they can't play their counter-attacking style. It explains why they do so well against the "better" sides but struggle against "weaker" opposition. If they want to compete with the best and win trophies then they simply can't carry on like this.
