Besiktas vs Fenerbahce

The Turkish Super Lig enters its penultimate round of action this weekend and we've got a massive game lined up to preview. It's two of the biggest clubs in Turkish domestic football going at it when Besiktas host Fenerbahce in a 7pm BST kick-off this Sunday evening live from the Vodafone Park in Istanbul. European qualification is at stake when these two bitter rivals meet. Will either side prevail with the bragging rights?

Besiktas come into this game in 4th place in the Turkish top flight. Head coach Sergen Yalcin knows his team have met expectations so far but with 2nd placed Trabzonspor banned from European competition it means that 3rd place qualifies for the Champions League. That spot is currently held by Sivasspor but Besiktas are only 1 point off the pace of that position. Back-to-back wins have steadied the ship after a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Kayserispor but the fact that defeat here could throw even their Europa League hopes into doubt shows how close it is at the top of the table.

Fenerbahce were really struggling earlier this season. Ersun Yanal was relieved of his duties back in March after a winless run of 7 league games and the club has put caretaker manager Tahir Karapinar in charge until the end of the season. It's now two league games without a win and the club's European aspirations have been thrown up in the air. The team is sat in 7th place and 1 point outside the Europa League qualification places. The pressure is on for the team to win this game otherwise their hopes of European football next season could be vanquished at the hands of their arch rivals.

What an occasion this game is with so much at stake for both clubs. Besiktas need the win to keep their Champions League hopes alive and Fenerbahce need the victory to stay in the hunt for a Europa League spot. One of these teams is going to end up disappointed at the full-time whistle and avoiding that feeling against your bitter rivals should be enough to motivate these two sets of players. I can see Besiktas sneaking this one because I just feel Fenerbahce just don't have the right man at the helm for a game like this.
