Only 2-3 games remain for clubs across the division and there are important issues to address at both ends of the league table when relegation strugglers Leganes host Europa League qualification hopefuls Valencia in this 6:30pm BST kick-off on Sunday evening at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque. Leganes are on the brink. There is no hiding place now for Javier Aguirre and his players. An awful start to their campaign hasn't been helped by inconsistent results since. The club has gone through three managers and after finishing mid-table last season this season can only be labelled a disaster. The team are in 19th place and 6 points from safety. Failure to win here would see them almost certainly relegated but even a win is likely to be a stay of execution. Just 1 win from their last 8 league games doesn't make for the best reading and it's even worse when you see that they haven't won any of their last 5 league games at home. Valencia have experienced a bit of a rollercoaster season. Highly-acclaimed head coach Marcelino was sacked back in September. His replacement Albert Celades had appeared to get things back on track but was unceremoniously relieved of his duties by owner Peter Lim in a controversial move that also saw sporting director Cesar Sanchez hand in his resignation over the sacking. Voro Gonzalez is the man who has been placed in charge and he's seen Valencia avoid defeat in their last two league games. The team is now 8th in the league and only 3 points off the Europa League qualification spots. I feel that there's a sense of inevitability about this Leganes situation. They've simply not been good enough and they need to technically win 2 of their last 3 league games at least and hope that Alaves lose their remaining two league matches to stand any chance of survival. Valencia are still in the running for Europe after an unsettled time but I think they might have enough to sneak over the line and that could start with a win here. They've not lost to Leganes in their last 9 meetings. It'll be tense. It'll be edgy. But I think the away side are worth the money.
