Goztepe vs Rizespor

The world may well be engulfed by the coronavirus outbreak but the Turkish Super Lig powers on. It's a controversial decision but so long as football is being played we'll cover it. Goztepe play Rizespor in this 5pm GMT kick-off this evening at the Gursel Aksel Stadium as the league extends into midweek. The home team will look to consolidate their mid-table position against a visiting side that are battling to survive.

Goztepe are in 8th place but still closer to the relegation zone than the European qualification spots based on their points tally. Manager Ilhan Palut's side are 15 points behind 4th placed Sivasspor who occupy the last automatic Europa League qualification place but only 9 points above the drop zone. A bad run of results could see them sucked back into the dogfight. Winning just 4 of their 11 home league games hasn't laid down the best foundations for them. Failing to win any of their last 4 games including losing 3 games on the bounce is also a worrying trend.

Rizespor need to start picking up points and fast. Head coach Unal Karaman is looking to steer the club away from the relegation zone. The team is in 16th place but just inside the bottom three due to inferior goal difference and they have a crucial game in hand here. If they were to win this game then they could potentially move up to 12th so it's a delicate situation right now. Just 2 wins from their 12 away league games isn't the best reading for their fans coming into this fixture and 8 matches without a victory shows something needs to change.

I am fearing for Rizespor this season. Results are continuing to be poor and they come to a Goztepe side that might also be struggling but will relish the chance to get back to winning ways against a team that are looking in deep trouble. I think given the odds being offered on a home win, it's too good to turn down and I think Goztepe will end their barren run at the expense of a Rizespor team that are going down a dark path.
