StevieDay1983
Sparta vs Emmen The Dutch Eredivisie action is a tough grind this week with a lot of games offering little value or appearing too risky. I've just about settled on this mid-table clash between Sparta and Emmen that kicks off at 3:45pm GMT today from the Het Kasteel in Rotterdam. Both sides have seen hopes of European contention slowly slip away and will now want to ensure they don't get dragged into a relegation battle. Sparta find themselves in 11th place and 5 points above the relegation zone. A win in this game would move them closer to the European play-off places than the relegation places so psychologically it would do them the world of good. Henk Fraser's men have won 2 of their last 3 league games so they'll feel this is a great opportunity to make it 3 from 4 and build up some momentum. Just 1 loss from their last 8 home competitive matches shows they're now a tough side to beat on their own patch. Emmen have done us well over the course of this season so far. As opposed to backing them in this game we're going to be betting against them. Dick Lukkien's side are 12th in the table and just 4 points above the relegation zone. A victory here would see them move above their opponents. Just 1 defeat in their last 6 league games is decent form but their away form is in serious need of improvement with the club having failed to win a single game on the road this season in the league. I think given Sparta boast a solid run of results at home lately then it's worth backing them against an Emmen side that are seriously shambolic on their travels. If you have an away side that possess the worst away record in the top flight of Dutch football then the odds being offered on a home win seem too good to turn down. I think a Sparta win is the best value.
