Serie A & B Predictions > Feb 14th - 17th

Recommended Posts

It's a great shame but SPAL have sacked coach Leonardo Semplici. He took them from Serie C to Serie A in the space of a couple of seasons and will surely go down in history as one of the club's greatest coaches. Unfortunately things have turned a bit stale for SPAL this season, they have a relatively small budget and have not invested heavily enough in the attacking players they need. The fact that they've only scored 17 goals from 23 games tells its own story.

Semplici has been replaced by Luigi Di Biagio but I am skeptical this will change their fortunes as their problems stem from a lack of quality in the forward positions.

I expect SPAL and Brescia to be relegated come the end of the season with an interesting battle developing between Genoa and Lecce to see who can avoid 18th place.

Very important duel, with no clear favorites on legal betting pages. Lazio is the home team favorite. I'll stay away from the end result and bet on many goals. Both teams have excellent offensive lines and I expect an open goal and spectacle game

Lazio vs Inter: 1:1

Lazio (18) and Inter (16) own the two current longest unbeaten runs in Serie A across the Top 5 European leagues, only Liverpool (42) are currently on a longer run without defeat. I do not expect either team to lose and the only 2 away games that Inter did not win this season ended 1:1.

28 out of 76 games between Lazio and Inter at Stadio Olimpico ended as ties making it the most frequent outcome of those matches. However, the last time they drew at Lazio's stadium in Serie A was more than 10 years ago - back in 2008 a 1:1 match. I think a draw is a risky bet but like the odds of +6 for correct score 1:1.

AC Milan vs Torino

Serie A offers us the treat of a Monday night game this week when AC Milan play Torino in a 7:45pm GMT start at the San Siro. A game at one of the most iconic stadiums in world football that doesn't quite hold the magnitude it once did but should still be a thriller. Both teams experiencing underwhelming campaigns so far but can one side ignite their season with a win here?

AC Milan are mid-table mediocrity with the club in 10th place. Stefano Pioli's side are only 3 points off the European qualification spots with a game in hand but there is a lot of competition around them. The 4-2 loss to Inter Milan last weekend brought an undefeated run of 5 league games to an end. How the team bounces back after that defeat remains to be seen but they are without a loss in their last 5 home league matches.

Torino may well be looking on enviously at city rivals Juventus as they battle for the title whilst Moreno Longo's side toil at the wrong end of the table. The club is languishing in 14th place and just 5 points above the relegation zone. Losing four league games on the bounce has seen the team drop down the table and despite replacing former manager Walter Mazzarri with Longo at the beginning of this month it appears to have done little to stop the rot.

The obvious shout is the home win for this one. AC Milan were doing well before that derby loss last weekend. If they can use that defeat as motivation and bounce back immediately then it could see them go on another bit of a run. I think the bottom line is that Torino look like a side in deep trouble. Unless they turn their fortunes around as soon as possible we could be looking at surprise relegation candidates.
