StevieDay1983
Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig The Bundesliga throws up a massive game in the title race this weekend when reigning champions and league leaders Bayern Munich host their closest rivals RB Leipzig in a 5pm GMT kick-off on Sunday afternoon at the Allianz Arena. This game could have a huge influence on the destination of the title this season so which side will prevail victorious or will they nullify each other? Bayern Munich were looking in a right state earlier this season with several clubs in a better position to win the title than themselves. Former manager Niko Kovac was replaced by the controversial appointment of Hans Dieter-Flick at the start of November. Despite a couple of defeats just before Christmas, the club's league form has improved immensely with Bayern winning their last 6 league games in a row. Three clean sheets during that spell shows the defensive issues that hampered them earlier in the season have been remedied and with the team now top of the table once more it is looking like they could retain their title against the odds. RB Leipzig had been leading the pack at the end of 2019. Julian Nagelsmann was doing a cracking job but his side have just been unable to fend off the relentless assault by Bayern Munich in recent weeks. Leipzig are just 1 point behind Bayern in the table but they also have Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mochengladbach, and Bayer Leverkusen within 4 points behind them. The pressure is cranking up. Just 2 wins from their last 5 league games has stalled their title challenge. It's also two league games without a win now. They do come into this game with the best away record in the Bundesliga but they haven't won in their last two away league games either. What a game this could be. Bayern Munich are back from the dead and you'd be foolish to bet against them at home. RB Leipzig have stuttered lately so I really can't see them getting a win. Can they grind out a draw and keep the league leaders within their grasp? I'm not sure. Bayern Munich have won each of their last six league games by at least two goals and I think they could do the same here against a Leipzig side who feel like they're running out of steam. StevieDay1983
Holstein Kiel vs St Pauli OK, so the big match in the Bundesliga title race didn't quite go the way we expected but that's the benefit of this being a bonus week. Bundesliga II is the focus of this second preview this week as we catch up with things. Mid-table side Holstein Kiel host the now officially recognised terrorist group (what a joke that is by the UK government!) that is St Pauli in a 7:30pm GMT kick-off at the Holstein-Stadion tonight. Holstein Kiel are having a season of consolidation. Head coach Ole Werner's men are in 9th place and even though they are 11 points off the pace of the play-offs they'll be reluctant to write-off a late surge in form. At the moment, they're still ominously just 6 points above the relegation places so even safety isn't guaranteed this season. Just 2 wins from their 9 home league games gives them some of the worst home form in European football for a team in their league position. It's now no win in their last 4 home games too. St Pauli remain a football hipster's choice as a second club. Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay is the gaffer there right now and he's keeping his team hovering just above the relegation spots in 15th place. It's a sad state of affairs for a team that was a thriving Bundesliga side not that long ago. They come into this game without a single win on the road this season. Just 1 point keeps them above the relegation zone so a win is desperately needed here. Unfortunately four league defeats away from home in a row make St Pauli hard to back in this one. Holstein Kiel have been far from prolific at home but this is the sort of game they'll feel they can get back to winning ways. St Pauli are in a sorry position and I have a bad feeling they might not survive this season. Holstein Kiel are just favoured by the ELO ratings but heavily backed by the bookies so I'm going to join them.
