StevieDay1983
Moreirense vs Braga It's a slightly later than usual Portuguese Primeira Liga preview this week due to the extended game week running into the middle of this week. My focus for the game tonight is Moreirense versus Braga in an 8:15pm GMT kick-off at the Parque Moreira de Conegos Guimaraes in the Braga District. A local derby between two sides that have two completely contrasting season goals heading into this game. Moreirense are in 14th place in the league table and only 4 points above the relegation zone. Manager Vitor Campelos will be keen to try and build on his side's solid home form this season to steer them away from the drop zone. It's now just 2 losses in 8 home league matches for the struggling side. Before the 4-2 defeat at home to 10 man Porto it was four games unbeaten at home. Unfortunately, it's now also just 1 win in their last 5 matches in all competitions. Braga head into this game with aspirations to finish in the Europa League qualification spots. Head coach Ruben Amorim's men are in 6th place and victory here would take them to within 1 point of Famalicao who occupy that 4th spot that guarantees European competition participation next season. Os Arcebispos have an average away record with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 4 defeats in the league. The stand-out statistic is their current run of form that has seen them win 6 matches in all competitions on the bounce. It is this recent form that has me keen to back a solid Braga win. I know the old saying goes that form goes out of the window in derby matches but these two sides are a world apart in quality. Not only have Braga been decent with their performances recently, as shown by the ELO ratings, but they have been simply brilliant on the road. I can see a convincing win here to boost their European qualification hopes.
