Peterborough vs Rotherham

League One offers up an intriguing match this weekend when play-off chasing Peterborough welcome league leaders Rotherham to the London Road Stadium for this 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday afternoon. Only 7 points separate these two teams so it's set to be a closely-contested game. The three points are vital for both side's promotion ambitions but will either team claim them?

Peterborough are still a side that many feel should be performing better with the likes of Ivan Toney, Marcus Maddison, and Mo Eisa in their squad. Darren Ferguson's men are in 8th in the table but only 1 point off the pace of the play-offs. The issue being that they've played 2 games more than most of their rivals around them. Posh beat high-flying Wycombe 4-0 in their last league game but that was their first win in 6 league matches. They head into this game with only 3 wins in their 14 home league matches. Not great reading for their fans.

Rotherham fans are loving life at the minute as their team sits proudly on top of the League One tree. Paul Warne has insisted that none of his squad is leaving during the January transfer window and that he even intends on adding quality to cement their place in the automatic promotion spots. The Millers come into this game off the back of an undefeated streak of 7 league games including 5 wins on the trot. They also boast the 2nd best away record in the division having only lost 3 of their 13 league games on the road this season.

I was very impressed by Peterborough in their last game. They clearly got a rollicking from Ferguson after the 1-0 loss away to AFC Wimbledon because they squandered a lot of chances with Toney being particularly wasteful. They bounced back in style against Wycombe at home and if they repeat that performance then they'll win this one. I just feel we saw them at their absolute best in midweek and they won't repeat that. I think that win will give them enough of a boost to take a point here though.

Morecambe vs Cambridge

The League Two game getting a preview this week is one that potentially offers huge value and the buzz surrounding this match suggests we could be onto something here. Bottom-placed Morecambe play a struggling Cambridge side in a 3pm GMT kick-off at the Globe Arena. Contrasting form books are pushing us towards backing only one outcome here and the price available is too good to ignore.

Morecambe may well be bottom of the division but they come into this game as a side that have only lost 1 of their last 6 league games at home. Derek Adams replaced Jim Bentley at the start of November and results have improved slightly but the performances at home have given optimism that a turn in fortunes can be earned. The 4-1 loss away to an in-form Northampton last weekend was disappointing but if the Shrimps can focus on their home performances then they've shown enough to make us think they can get a win here.

Cambridge find themselves in 16th place and 9 points clear of their opponents for this game. Unfortunately, Colin Calderwood's men have hit an awful run of form over the festive period and New Year. It's now just 1 win in their last 8 league games including losing their last 4 league games on the bounce. During that run, they failed to even score in their last 3 league matches. If that wasn't bad enough, United have now not won on the road in the league in their last 9 matches.

The value on a Morecambe win is too good to ignore here. Yes, they may well be rock bottom of the table and some bookies even have Cambridge down as the favourites still but the stats for their respective home and away form suggests the money should back the home side in this one. The ELO ratings are also firmly behind the hosts and that's where I'm putting my faith.
