Newtown vs TNS

OK, so we've had a little longer than usual to digest the Cymru Premier fixtures this week so technically that should mean we will get close to a correct prediction, right? Well, we'll see but it's the Friday night game between mid-table Newtown and league leaders TNS that is set to kick-off at 8pm GMT at Latham Park. The odds favour the table-toppers but is an upset in the offing?

Newtown will feel satisfied with their season so far. Chris Hughes's team are on course for a top half finish that will see them reach the Europa League play-offs. It's a campaign that has been built on an impressive home record with just 1 loss coming at home all season. Back-to-back clean sheets at home has given them the perfect platform coming into this game. However, it wasn't too long ago that the club suffered defeat on home turf. Barry Town sealed a 3-2 win here in the league back on 5th October and STM Sports then grabbed a 4-3 win on pens after a 2-2 draw over 90 minutes in the Welsh League Cup on 29th October.

TNS had an inconsistent start to the season but Scott Ruscoe's side have hitting the high notes for a while now. A disappointing 2-1 loss at home to 10-man Cardiff Met Uni just before Christmas was an uncharacteristic blip in what is proving to be a positive season for the reigning champions. Just 2 defeats in 10 away league games shows they know how to get the job done on the road. The most frightening statistic for Newtown heading into this game is that TNS have scored an incredible 26 goals in their last 3 away games in all competitions.

This is certain to be a terrific watch on S4C this Friday night. Newtown will be a tough test for the champions. TNS are hitting form at the right time though. This is a squad that knows what is needed to win titles. They'll relish coming to Latham Park and ending another side's good home form. I'm going to back a solid away win as they continue their march to retaining their title.

A tricky set of fixtures this week, Glentoran(Won 2-1) look nailed on but are priced as such. My only interest is in the Monday night game, Cliftonville v Linfield. As I have said before I think that Linfield are the best side in the division, and will possibly play to small stakes the Linfield DNB (Won 2-1) at 5/6.
