StevieDay1983 Posted January 4, 2020 Author Share Posted January 4, 2020 AEK Athens vs Panaitolikos The Greek Super League action is back after a brief break over the Christmas period. We return with the clash between AEK Athens and Panaitolikos in a 1pm GMT kick-off this Sunday afternoon from the Athens Olympic Stadium. The home side will be hoping it's third time a charm as they continue a new era under their third manager this season against an away team battling to stay off the bottom of the table. AEK Athens have become considered as the third best team in Greece over recent seasons with Olympiakos and Panathinaikos leading the way. This season they are falling just short of those standards. The club began the season with Miguel Cardoso in charge but he didn't even see out August. He was replaced by Nikos Kostenoglou. However, he was sacked just before Christmas and his replacement was Massimo Carrera. It's been fairly positive stuff since Carrera came in and the team is now back up to 3rd in the table having gone their last four league games unbeaten. Panaitolikos are a completely different story. The club is languishing in 13th place on just 8 points and only 2 points ahead of bottom placed side Panionios. It is quite frankly a shocking state of affairs. Head coach Makis Chavos has to accept his team will be battling in the Relegation Round. The positive news being that they picked up 4 points from their last two league games before Christmas and kept clean sheets in both of those games. This is a one-sided affair as far as the bookies, ELO ratings, and statistics are concerned. I totally get that. The away form of Panaitolikos is terrible with just 2 points gained from their 8 away league games. I have a feeling this rejuvenated AEK Athens side will take them to the cleaners and we'll see a game that will show the full extent of the gap that separates these two sides in the league table. Olympiacos is a big favorite on the betting sites and the odds are worth under £ 1.50. PAS is not a negligent team, Panathinaikos who is a favorite should be serious. The Giants have not lost and conceded just four goals in 11 games. Panathinaikos, on the other hand, has an aggressive problem and is not effective.
