Rizespor vs Fenerbahce

It seems unusual not doing a weekly Turkish Super Lig preview on a Monday. It's become somewhat of a Punters Lounge tradition. Still, this is a busy time of year and we have the games on Sunday instead. I'm focusing on Rizespor versus Fenerbahce in a 4pm GMT kick-off on Sunday afternoon at the Yeni Rize Sehir Stadium where the away side have it all to lose.

Rizespor come into this game in 12th place and only 6 points above the relegation zone. Head coach Ismail Kartal will be hoping his side's solid home form can be improved in this game but the odds are stacked against his players. Inconsistent results have hampered their efforts this season but the 4-3 aggregate win against Samsunspor in the Turkish Cup 5th Round was followed by a decent 2-0 win away to Yeni Malatyaspor.

Fenerbahce are currently situated in 5th place and just 2 points outside the European qualification spots. Just 1 loss in their last 6 league games has helped to keep them in touch with the leading pack but Ersun Yanal's men are now 6 points off the pace of leaders Sivasspor. The 3-1 win at home to Besiktas last week will have done their confidence the world of good but failure to win their last 4 league games away will leave a shadow of doubt.

I think this is the game where Fenerbahce finally end their away day woes. Only 2 wins from their 8 away league games this season isn't great reading but I think Rizespor really don't offer a lot. Fenerbahce will get that away win sooner or later and I think they'll be buzzing after their victory last week. A win here will really crank up the pressure on the leaders and it could even throw them right back into the title race.
