StevieDay1983
Marseille vs Nimes The French Ligue 1 game being previewed is a slight change of pace. Usually, I'm looking for those close games where the value and risk are both quite high. However, this week I'm covering Marseille versus Nimes in a 7:45pm GMT kick-off on Saturday evening from the Stade Velodrome. I've not seen the ELO ratings so favourable towards one side in quite some time. Marseille are rampant right now. There's no other way to put it. Head coach Andre Villas-Boas appears to have been a shrewd appointment for the former Ligue 1 champions. The club is in 2nd place after an unbeaten run of 7 league games that includes 6 victories in a row. Their defensive frailties have shown due to only keeping two clean sheets during that period but their ability to score goals and hold onto their leads is the stand-out from those performances. That is particularly the case at home where they've won their last 5 games in the league. Nimes will want to start winning games soon because the situation is getting more and more grim by the day. Head coach Bernard Blaquart's side have now gone 11 league games without tasting victory. There have been some humiliating score-lines recently too including a 4-0 loss at home to Lyon, a 6-0 defeat away to Bordeaux, and a 4-1 loss away to Strasbourg. The defence remains an issue and against this clinical Marseille side that is a worry. I can only see one outcome here and that's Marseille winning this game with ease. Nimes are a side in trouble at the foot of the table and 5 points adrift of safety right now. I can't see them turning their form around drastically enough to even compete with the home side in this one. Nimes seem a team destined to go back down to Ligue 2 and this result will be one of a number to come yet that gives them a harsh dose of reality in the top flight of French football.
