Cologne remains at the bottom of the standings in the Bundesliga and is apparently looking forward to today's game with Hoffenheim to return to the triplets and take a big breath in the face of a crucial run in the league. The visitors have been faring better than their opponents so far, but today in Cologne they are expected to have difficult times. The two teams are easily scoring in general and the choice of many goals is obvious

Mainz 05 vs Union Berlin

The Bundesliga preview this week is heavily influenced by the ELO ratings. It's Mainz 05 versus Union Berlin in a 2:30pm GMT kick-off this Saturday afternoon from the Opel Arena where two sides hovering precariously above the relegation danger zone come up against each other knowing that a win could propel them up the table and away from trouble or a loss could drag them deeper into the furnace.

Mainz 05 are in 15th place and just one spot above the bottom three. It's a nervous situation for head coach Rouven Schroder's team who have now been in the top flight of German football for 39 uninterrupted seasons. That's an impressive feat when you think of the big names that have suffered relegation down to Bundesliga II over the years. Just 3 wins from their 10 league games this season has hampered their form but they'll be hoping to get a third win at home this season in this game.

Union Berlin have built a cult following due to their passionate fan base. The Berlin derby last weekend was a special occasion that saw Urs Fishcer's men pick up the 1-0 win and bragging rights of the capital city. That win helped move the club up to 14th in the table and 3 points clear of the relegation zone. Unfortunately, they come into this game with the joint worst away record in the German top flight having failed to win a single match on the road this season.

I'm going to have to back Mainz 05 for the victory here. Whenever a team gives so much both physically and emotionally into a game like Union Berlin did against Hertha Berlin in their last game it can be an energy-sapping and anti-climactic impact. Mainz 05 will feel they can get the crowd behind them in this game and I think we'll see a Union Berlin hangover from last weekend to continue their poor away form.

The home team Bayern Munich are in a strange phase, with defenses lacking, causing a lot of gaps. Dortmund are in better shape and have a psychology of overturning with Inter. Certainly many goals have a great chance, as they play the best attacks, and at the same time, with defensive gaps. I'll risk with Dortmund, I don't trust Bayern at all
