Ajax vs Feyenoord

A classic encounter is waiting for us in the Dutch Eredivisie this weekend but it is perhaps lacking a bit of its usual hype because of the contrasting starts these two teams have had to their season. It's league leaders Ajax taking on a lower mid-table Feyenoord side in a 3:45pm GMT kick-off on Sunday at the Amsterdam Arena. Will we see a surprise result or will the home side add another win to their record?

Ajax might have lost key players in the summer but Erik ten Hag's men continue to steam roller their way through the competition in domestic action. The reigning Dutch champions are top of the tree with 8 wins and 2 draws from their 10 league matches so far. It's four wins on the bounce in the league with just 1 goal conceded during that run. It'll be interesting to see how they react to the 1-0 loss at home to Chelsea in the Champions League in midweek after Quincy Promes had seen his goal ruled out narrowly for offside.

Feyenoord were a major force in Dutch football not so long ago. Now, Jaap Stam's side are in 11th place on 14 points from 10 league matches. Just 1 win in the last 5 league games has seen the club drop down the league table and even though they're comfortably clear of the relegation zone the current form is a major concern. Defeat here is likely to see the chances of European competition next season fade.

The respective home and away form of these two sides could be key here. Ajax boast a 100% record at home this season but Feyenoord have only managed 1 win in 4 away games. I can't see any other outcome than a home win and I think given Feyenoord's lack of self belief right now they could suffer a heavy loss. It's going to be an intriguing next few weeks for Feyenoord.
