StevieDay1983
Club Brugge vs Standard Liege The Belgian First Division A action intensifies this weekend when two of the biggest clubs in the history of the league go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm GMT. It's league leaders Club Brugge that host second placed Standard Liege at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Can the home team extend their lead at the top or will the visiting side take all three points to gain ground on their rivals? Club Brugge are enjoying a very productive season thus far. Philippe Clement's side are 1st in the division with 26 points from 10 matches. That consists of 8 wins and 2 draws as the team remains unbeaten in domestic action. An encouraging start to their Champions League campaign with draws against Galatasaray and Real Madrid came to an abrupt end this week with a 5-0 loss at home to PSG. How will the team react to such a hammering? Standard Liege have the incentive of trying to stop their opponents from opening up a 6 point gap here. Former legendary Belgian goalkeeper Michel Preud'homme is the man in the hot seat at the 2009 champions. Even though their Europa League campaign continues to misfire it is far better news on the domestic front with the club now unbeaten in their last 7 matches. Two of the big guns in the Belgian top flight lock horns and it's difficult to have total confidence in either team coming out on top. What impact did their respective European losses have on their mental states this week? I think Club Brugge will relish a chance to make the midweek battering right and we'll see a wounded lion come out of the blocks fast. I think Club Brugge should seal a win here.
