StevieDay1983 Posted October 19, 2019 Author Share Posted October 19, 2019 Xanthi vs Aris The Greek Super League has some very one-sided matches this weekend with wins for Olympiakos, AEK Athens, and PAOK already seemingly confirmed before they've played according to the bookies. It makes sense to try and find value in one of the closer games so I'm opting for the game between high-flying Xanthi and mid-table Aris which kicks off at 3pm BST on Sunday at the Xanthi FC Arena. It's been a cracking start to the season for Xanthi in the top flight of Greek football. Kiko Ramirez is proving to be an astute appointment by the club hierarchy with the Spaniard leading his team to 2nd in the table with 5 wins and just 1 loss from their first 6 league games this season. Back-to-back wins after the 3-0 loss away to Larissa has shown they have the character to bounce back after a defeat. A 100% record at home also bodes well heading into this game. Aris are treading water at the moment in 9th place with just 5 points from their 6 league games. Head coach Michael Oenning has now seen his team fail to win any of their last 3 league games. The club is now in danger of dropping even further down the league table if they fail to win here. Scoring goals hasn't been a problem for the team with 9 goals scored in their last 4 matches but conceding is an issue with 7 goals conceded in that period. I'm going to have to back a home win here. Aris haven't been great on the road and this fragile defence is there to be picked apart. Xanthi are looking in fantastic form this season and they've passed the first test of recovering from that Larissa defeat. Aris are in danger of free falling if they don't start picking up points again soon. I don't think they can do it here against a Xanthi team that have the potential to turn their home base into a fortress this season. Atromitos is vulnerable defensively, struggling aggressively, so Panathinaikos can score, as does the home team, to confirm that both teams score.
