PSV vs Ajax

It only needed a quick scan over the fixtures in the Eredivisie this week to work out what the big game coming up would be. It's a potential title decider when PSV and Ajax go head-to-head at Philips Stadion in Eindhoven. Kick-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3:45pm BST and it's probably not under-estimating the importance of this game by saying that it is a top-of-the-table six pointer.

PSV narrowly missed out on the Eredivisie title last season and Mark van Bommel has been keen to take his side to the next level this season. The Red and Whites are level on points at the top of the table with their opponents today. It's been a positive start with 4 wins and 1 draw but the result in this game could turn an encouraging start into a brilliant one or even into a disappointing if it doesn't end as they hope.

Ajax are sitting on top of the Eredivisie table once again. OK, so it's only on goal difference but it's a psychological edge heading into this game. The reigning league champions have suffered some big name losses over the summer but Erik ten Hag appears to have kept the quality within his squad high. It's four league wins on the bounce now since that disappointing 2-2 draw with Vitesse on the opening weekend. The manner of those four wins has been emphatic too.

The fascinating thing about this game is there is so little separating these sides. PSV have recovered from the disappointment of the early exit from the Champions League. The 3-2 win against Sporting CP on Thursday was impressive and their form at home has been exemplary in the league. Ajax are still a force on the road. Two 4-1 wins in their last two away games in the league and the 3-0 victory over Lille in the Champions League in midweek was superb. I can't call this so have to back a score draw.
