I know there is a full schedule of Northern Irish games too but the odds haven't been made available yet so I'll keep an eye out for them. Anyway, @Cheltenhamwhite, hit us with your thoughts mate! I'll look to get a WPL preview up today.
StevieDay1983
Penybont vs Barry Town The Welsh Premier League (or Cymru Premier League as it's known as here) is back and as a Welshman myself I'm bloody delighted. It's new boys Penybont taking on Barry Town in an 8pm kick-off at the KYMCO Stadium in Bridgend tonight. The restructuring of the Welsh league system should make for some interesting times over the coming seasons and it's always great to see a new name in the top flight. Penybont were formed in their current guise back in 2013 after the clubs of Bridgend Town and Bryntirion FC merged. It's been a success story ever since with the club rising through the leagues to reach this top level of Welsh football. Rhys Griffiths now has a set of players that are looking to consolidate their place with the elite. The club has been knocking on the door for a number of seasons now so it'll be interesting to see how they fair in this debut season in the Cymru Premier League. Barry Town have experienced their rollercoaster times over recent years. The Dragons have risen from the ashes of turmoil to qualify for European competition. Gavin Chesterfield now has a side that is seriously looking to launch a title bid in the next few seasons. A 3rd place finish last season was impressive but the club finished 18 points behind league winners TNS. There is still work to be done but the club is moving in the right direction. Their stint in the Europa League this season started and ended in the Preliminary Round against Northern Irish side Cliftonville but it was valuable experience. I'm excited to see how Penybont approach this game. They've just signed Cardiff youth prospects Dan Griffiths and Keenan Patten so I'll be keen to see if they get game time. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can see them beating this Barry Town side. Chesterfield is building a decent squad and I think even though the KYMCO Stadium will be vibrant it should be a narrow win for the visitors.
