St Etienne vs Brest

Ligue 1 offers an interesting match-up this weekend when St Etienne host newly promoted Brest in a 2pm BST kick-off on Sunday at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. These two clubs might well have contrasting aspirations for this season but they'll both be looking to take all three points from this game. Can the top flight new boys cause a shock or will the favourites come through?

St Etienne won their opening weekend match away to Dijon with a 2-1 win. Two goals in the opening 11 minutes put Ghislain Printant's men in a dominant position. An attempted comeback from their opponents never prevailed. Printant's reign has started with a win and he'll be hoping his side can build on that here to maintain a 100% record. The club built their success last season on an impressive home record. Only two teams in the league boasted a better record on their own turf.

Brest started their first season back in Ligue 1 after promotion from Ligue 2 with a 1-1 draw at home to Toulouse. The departure of promotion-achieving manager Jean-Marc Furlan to Ligue 2 side Auxerre on the day promotion was confirmed has left a sour taste in the mouth but it is hoped his replacement, former Dijon gaffer Olivier Dall'Oglio, can keep them up this season.

It's always a tricky one to judge these newly promoted sides in the early days of the new season. Brest were solid enough against Toulouse but this is on the road. Even during their promotion season, Brest weren't perfect on their travels. I'm anticipating them to struggle here. St Etienne are starting life under a new manager after their joint best league finish ever last season but I feel they're better set-up to get the win here. I'm expecting a solid home victory.
