StevieDay1983
Marseille vs Reims The French Ligue 1 season is back for another year of PSG storming to the title and everyone else fighting for what's left. Who knows? Maybe this season will be different? Probably not! Our first preview to begin proceedings is between Marseille and Reims in a 4:30pm BST kick-off at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday afternoon. The home side are firm favourites but can they start with the expected win? Marseille come into this campaign under the management of Andre Villas-Boas. The former Chelsea man has been enjoying a slight bit more of success since he parted company with the Stamford Bridge club including boasting a 55% win ratio at Tottenham and winning the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup, and Russian Super Cup with Zenit St Petersburg. Villas-Boas has avoided the temptation of overhauling the playing squad with Dario Benedetto and Alvaro Gonzalez the only noteworthy arrivals with the limited departures of Lucas Ocampos, Clinton N'Jie, and Yusuf Sari ensuring the bulk of the squad from last season remains. Reims retain the services of head coach David Guion for a third consecutive season. Les Rouges et Blancs finished an impressive 8th last season but the departure of Eduoard Mendy is a big blow. The club has moved to replace him with Predrag Rajkovic but it's a big change to the back-line. Bjorn Engels' departure to Aston Villa is also a disappointment. It was Reims who had the better of Marseille last season with Guion's men taking a win and a draw against their opponents. However, Marseille come into this season having finished well at home last campaign with 6 wins from their last 9 games at the Stade Velodrome. I think they could start on a positive here. I know Villas-Boas didn't have the biggest impact on the Premier League but I still think he's a quality manager and is a great appointment by Marseille.
