Vitoria Setubal vs Tondela

The first preview of our coverage of the new Primeira Liga season in Portugal might not be the biggest clash of the weekend but it's certainly one of the most intriguing. Two evenly balanced sides go toe-to-toe when Vitoria Setubal host Tondela in an 8:15pm BST kick-off at the Estadio do Bonfim in Setubal tonight. Who will come out on top in this first Monday night game of the new Portuguese campaign?

Vitoria Setubal had a satisfactory season last year finishing 13th in the league. It was enough to consolidate their place in the top flight but their fans will no doubt want to see them build on it and Sandro Mendes will look to finish in the top 10 this season. The loss of striker Jhonder Cadiz to Benfica is a blow but the club has moved quick to replace him with Khalid Hachadi but are they putting too much hope on a player so young? One of the more fascinating signings is 19-year old centre back Joao Serrao from Juventus.

Tondela will be wanting to improve on their 15th placed finish last season. Natxo Gonzalez is fighting an uphill battle again this year. Striker Tomane has departed the club for Red Star Belgrade and his vital goals were arguably the difference between safety and relegation for Auriverdes. How will they replace those goals? They've not spent big in the summer. The majority of their signings have been free transfers and loans. Do any of those additions stand out as the answer to the question left by Tomane's exit? I'm not sure. I think they could struggle.

Vitoria Setubal are certain to come into this confident that they can get all three points. Tondela could well have a problem with scoring this season and it won't be any easier on the road. The defensive qualities of both sides will be their main hope. Vitoria Setubal have won three of their last six matches against Tondela and have kept three clean sheets during those games. I am expecting a tightly-contested game but Vitoria Setubal should edge this game.

For the first game of the season,Setubal looked a team under pressure aswell as playing pretty poorly,their frustrations were shown pretty early on,and ended with half a dozen yellows and a red card,something not right in their camp and look a team to oppose right now.Tondela look comfortable for the most part with some good team play and should have won.Setubal next game is away to Porto!!! , no chance on that performance.
