FC Groningen vs FC Twente

We're back for some more Dutch Eredivisie action this weekend. Our preview this week takes in FC Groningen versus FC Twente in a 5:30pm BST kick-off this Saturday at the Noordlease Stadion. The two sides experienced differing fortunes in the first week of games with the home side notching up a win on the road with the visitors for this game being held to a draw. Both will want to take the win from this game.

FC Groningen are looking a solid side under Danny Buijs this season. The team's 1-0 win away to Emmen was not entirely unexpected but they're the sort of games that can be a banana skin for some sides. It's a positive start for a team hoping to improve on last season. The clean sheet from the first game will give their defence a lot of confidence coming into this home game.

FC Twente might have already dropped two points in their opening game but the draw against PSV will feel like a victory. Gonzalo Recoba will be pleased with his side's efforts on their return to the top flight of Dutch football after their time in the Eerste Division. This is a whole new challenge of a different variety. It's one thing to do the business in front of your own fans on the opening day of a new season in a higher division. Can they grind out the result here?

I fully expect this to be a war of attrition. FC Twente will want to get that first league win in this division as soon as possible but they won't be too disappointed with a draw. FC Groningen are set up to defend first and attack second.
