The 2019/20 Eredivisie season is set to begin this weekend. It's an intriguing one this year with reigning champions Ajax losing a number of key players including Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs De Ligt, and Maximilian Wober. However, they have brought in the likes of Razvan Marin, Quincy Promes, and Edson Alvarez. Their rivals will be looking to take advantage of that summer of sweeping changes in Amsterdam. What bets are you backing for this opening weekend of games in the Netherlands?

Heracles vs Heerenveen

OK, so the opening weekend of the Dutch Eredivisie might have a few intriguing matches coming up but the one I think is offering some tasty value is the clash between last season's European play-off contenders Heracles and mid-table mediocrity Heerenveen in an 11:15am BST kick-off from the Polman Stadion in Almelo tomorrow morning. Who will come out on top?

Heracles did briefly look like they might cause a huge shock and qualify for the Champions League last season. Frank Wormuth's side come into this season hoping to go one better than last year and qualify for European competition after a positive pre-season. The loan signing of PSV attacking midfielder Mauro Junior gives their attacking options a boost. It'll be interesting to see if he hits the ground running. Losing winger Kristoffer Peterson to Swansea was a departure they didn't want to see happen. The exit of main goal threat Adrian Dalmau is also a concern. Can his replacement Cyriel Dessers deliver the same number of goals?

Heerenveen were a side that were competing at the top-end of the Eredivisie for years. Last season was a disappointment for De Superfriezens. Johnny Jansen was appointed in April this year to try and turn their fortunes around. Pre-season suggests their fans have a lot to be optimistic about. The club has suffered the loss of two first team players in Kik Pierie to Ajax and Michel Vlap to Anderlecht. The arrivals of Jens Odgaard from Sassuolo, Ricardo van Rhijn from AZ, and Chidera Ejuke from Valerenga might not fill the void left by those two departures. Morten Thorsby's free transfer to Sampdoria is also a massive blow.

The statistics suggest we could see plenty of goals in this game. Five of the previous six encounters between these two teams has not only seen both teams score but over 2.5 goals scored. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of the last four matches involving Heracles and four of the last six Heerenveen matches. This is a close one to call. I'm swaying towards a draw but it could go either way on this opening day.
