dazmaul
Hi, Some horses on the racing post results will show as being overweight? Does anyone know what this means? Is this that the jockey weighed in overweight? Also, does the result page should penalties - if a horse was carrying extra weight for a recent win - I know it shows on the race-card, just wondering if it would show on the results? Cheers dazmaul

BillyHills
Hi mate It means they carried over the weight they should have, yes it can mean the jockey couldn't do the weight allotted. It sometimes happens when the connections would rather still have a professional on board and carry overweight instead of an inexperienced rider who maybe could claim the proper weight. Also sometimes a horse will run outside of the weight scale for that race and therefore the horse will carry overweight. For example if in a handicap where the top weight is rated say 150 and carries 11st 12lbs and another horse in the race is only rated 120. Normally he would carry 30lbs less than the top weight but the lowest weight allowed is 10st in any jumps race which is only 26lbs difference. This means any horse rated lower than 124 (150-26) will have to still carry 10st and hence be carrying overweight. Horses outside of the handicap are usually listed at the bottom of the card. Like the 345 at Kempton today, the bottom weight should have carried 9st11lbs but will have to carry 3lbs overweight due to its low rating. It is listed at the bottom (Long Handicap weight) In the results this may show as OW3lbs. dazmaul
BillyHills
The other question about results showing extra weight. If a horse carries a penalty for winning recently it does show in the results The Racing Post says EW5 (extra weight) ATR says (ex5) meaning carried 5lb penalty Grey Mist carried a 5lb penalty here for example. dazmaul
