StevieDay1983 Posted April 26, 2019 Author Share Posted April 26, 2019 SPAL vs Genoa Serie A enters its closing stages this weekend and we turn our attention to one of the less high-profile matches in the Italian football schedule with this SPAL versus Genoa encounter that's kicking off at 2pm on Sunday at the Stadio Paolo Mazza with relegation still a cause for concern for both sides. SPAL are in 13th place and 9 points clear of the relegation zone with 5 league games remaining. It's highly unlikely that Leonardo Semplici's side will get sucked into the dog fight at the foot of the table but they're still not mathematically safe. Things may even become more perilous if they lose this game and other results go against them. The fact they've won 5 of their last 6 league games and their last three home league games including a famous 2-1 win over Juventus suggests they should be fine. Genoa might not be feeling quite as comfortable. Cesar Prandelli was appointed as the club's third manager this season back in December. It's quite the fall from the stratosphere for the former Italy national side who was leading his country to the 2012 European Championship Final. Results did improve initially but 5 league games without a win including 4 defeats is worrying. The club is now in 15th place and just 5 points above the drop zone. This is a game that is SPAL's to lose. Their form is in the realms of a side that is competing for the title not mid-table mediocrity. Genoa are on a slippery slope and having just won 2 of their 16 away matches this season in the league the best they can hope for is a draw unless performance levels improve significantly. I'm backing the home team to win this one.
