smartbetting9999
Hi all, I've just started a small scale experiment on the fairly well know "laying 0-0" betting strategy and thought I'd update this post as my progress continues. My goal is to start with £10 and get as much % return as possible. I've done a fair amount of analysis on the premier league along with a few others and will be focusing on games that offer between 8.5% to 12% return per game. This is typically games with lay odds of around 11.0. My Rules - Only bet on games that fall within my 0-0 lay range of 8.0 to 15.0. - Risk a maximum of 50% of my liability on any single game. - When simultaneous games are being played, I will split my liability across all games (max of 7), up to a max of 100% liability. I'm initially aiming to complete 30 cycles of correct bets. A cycle would count as my entire balance wagered with a gain of 10% (average) per cycle. (see pic 1 as an example of what this looks like). This would give me a 1490% return from my initial £10, taking it up to £159. I'm currently on cycle 4, having made 7 successful bets so far. (see pic 2) Summary Below; (as of 21/01/2019) Start Balance £10 Current Balance £13.31 Current % Profit 33% One more game tonight, then I'll look at the next set of games to select. Todays Games; Genoa v Milan - £0.67 laid at 10.5 for a liability of £6.32 - WON (Score of 0-2) Bolton v West Brom - £0.57 laid at 12.0 for a liability of £6.27 - 20:00 tonight With my view of getting 10% profit (cumulative) on each cycle, here's some additional milestones that I'd love to hit!! (this does assume I don't hit a 0-0)Would love to hear of anyone else that tried this strategy and if they had any success. 50 Cycles = £1,067 75 Cycles = £11,563 100 Cycles = £125,278 130 Cycles = £2,186,031 Obviously, beyond a certain level, I'm not going to be able to lay enough on any exchange but just shows the impact of compound interest!! I'll try and update regularly if anyone is interested in seeing how I get on. smartbetting9999
Thanks! I'm not planning my retirement on this strategy but do find it really interesting. For comparison, if you'd used this strategy for all Premiership games this season, you would have been +386% Below is starting with £1,000, ending up at £4,
Sir Puntalot
Definitely interesting @alabomb - have you tried it in Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga too?
smartbetting9999
I have run the same model for Bundesliga, same rules as above. Covering every league game and assuming I was able to get 10% return - this is the sketchy part as it's unlikely I could get 10% on every game. That said, with some analytics, I'd have avoidd at least 3 of the 0-0 scores so it's swings and roundabouts. There have only been 9 nil-nil games this season and of these 9, 4 were on a day that only one game was played so I would have lost a full 50% of liability. The the other games I would only have lost 20% to 25% (4 or 5 games in that session). The overall result from 100% on this league with these rules would have been a net return of +436%. Below is based on a starting balance of £1k.
smartbetting9999
Had you been able to avoid just 3 of the 0-0 games by using analytics then the result is significantly improved. Below, I have excluded 3 x 0-0 games (all of which were a single game day and hence 50% liability saved)
smartbetting9999
Another strategy would be betting only on days that have multiple games, hence reducing your chances of taking a large loss. Excluding all games that were the only game on that day. This would be the return on £1K on Bundesliga since start of the season. Much smoother curve as you're only taking 20% - 25% loss maximum per 0-0 loss
smartbetting9999
The same multi-game per day approach wouldn't have worked for the Premiership games. It seems that if a game is going to be 0-0 in Germany then it's when there's a single game on. In the UK, most nil-nils are on multi game days. At least so far. smartbetting9999
GOAL West Brom! Todays games are both winners for a return of 9.8%. On to the next. Am I okay to edit the original post to update the progress?
keef75
Hi, this looks really interesting. Can i ask where you get your historical data from? Have you been recording just since the new seasons started? I have a load of historical stuff, not sure if correct score is on there without digging it all out but I know I have it in the data I've been collecting since Aug 18. I've been updating my own website since then with data going back a few years. We've found some interesting data sets. I'll be following your journey here with interest. smartbetting9999
Just from flash scores. One season at a time is pretty easy then drop it into a spreadsheet. Whats your website? I may be able to take data from there more easily and go back over the past few years. Thanks
liero1
All I can contribute is a warning lol You surely looked at the 0-0 probabilities and odds you need, right? I just had a quick scan over my database, here are the 0-0 score probabilities and aligned odds for some major leagues and from the last 5 years - If you stick to your 8.0 you are likely to succeed if you get matched but anything above those average odds you are in danger zone mate: League Games Prob. smartbetting9999
Thanks liero1, some interesting data there. How have you calculated the odds column, I'm a little unclear. I think the key will be being selective with the lays, I would agree that laying every game blindly is high risk but I'm hoping to reduce this risk by taking in to account a range of statistics and team knowledge / performance. Unfortunately, there are very few games that offer lay odds of 8.0 on a 0-0 score, most likely around 10-12 from what I've seen.

If you have the probability for 0-0, say 10%, the odds are just 1 / probability, so its 1/ 0.1 = 10. Now, if you lay you need odds below 10, if you back you want odds above 10 to make this work for that probability.
smartbetting9999
Thanks, I'm with you now. I guess that shows the overall probability of all teams getting 0-0. The data I've been working with takes into account the teams current league position, goals for and against, previous games (against all teams) and previous matchups between the teams. I am also trying to incorporate any related news such as major players out of team, lack of manger / coach etc. Not a perfect science but hopefully I can improve enough to make the odds work and avoid the major losses!
