Napoli vs Chievo

Serie A throws up a very one-sided game this week when 2nd placed Napoli host bottom side Chievo in a 2pm kick-off this Sunday at the Stadio San Paolo. The odds suggest a battering is forecast for the travelling side but is that a fair assumption heading into this game?

Napoli are looking solid under Carlo Ancelotti. Gli Azzurri are just 6 points behind a Juventus side that have simply been irresistible this season. In most other circumstances, Ancelotti's side would be leading the pack in an average Serie A season so they're doing well.

Chievo are a completely different story. Domenico Di Carlo is the third manager for the club this season. Club President Luca Campedelli is clearly keen to try and rectify a campaign that has so far seen his team fail to pick up a league win this season as they sit bottom of the table. As if that wasn't bad enough, the club remains on 0 points after they were docked 3 points on 13th September after being found guilty of false accounting. That means the draw in their most recent game saw them move out of the minus points for the first time this season.

I'm not even going to beat around the bush here. Napoli boast the strongest home record in Serie A with 5 wins and 1 draw from their 6 home league games so far. On the flip side, Chievo have the worst away record with just 1 point from their 5 away league matches.

On this basis, I'm backing Napoli to secure a solid win here. I'm tempted by the heavy handicap but also think they'll do the job with a business-like professionalism so an early lead could well be earned. The odds aren't great but they seem as guaranteed as any you'll get this weekend.
