Lyon vs Manchester City

The Champions League is back after a few weeks break and our first preview of this week is the tricky match-up between Ligue 1 Lyon and Premier League leaders Manchester City in this 8pm kick-off from the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon. The visitors have already all but qualified for the last 16 and are resting a number of first team players. Does that leave them vulnerable?

Lyon earned a surprising 2-1 win in the reverse fixture. Unfortunately, it's just been 3 draws from their other 3 matches in this group. That still has them in 2nd place and a win here would see them take a huge step towards reaching the next phase of this competition.

Manchester City practically sealed qualification to the knock-out stage with a rampant 6-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the previous round of matches. Pep Guardiola's side still need 1 point to make sure but it would take a spectacular collapse to see it all go wrong.

City will certainly be without Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Benjamin Mendy, and Gabriel Jesus. Guardiola is set to rest a number of players ahead of a busy Christmas schedule. Even a weakened City team will still be a match for this Lyon side. Bruno Genesio's men are 4th in Ligue 1 but will be desperate to win here. After the previous meeting between these two clubs they will no doubt believe they can cause another upset.

This will be City's third away Champions League game in France. Their two previous trips have resulted in a 2-2 draw with PSG back in April 2016 and a 3-1 defeat to Monaco in March 2017. Will it be yet another miserable trip across the Channel? That statistic is not helped by Lyon having a brilliant record against English sides at home. The French side have lost just 1 of their last 10 European ties against English clubs.

I actually fancy Lyon to make this game difficult for City tonight. This is no doubt a City team that is one of the best in Europe but will they be able to strut their stuff in the hostile away atmosphere against a Lyon side that have beaten them once already this season and are proving quite prolific at home. I'm not comfortable enough to back a Lyon win but they won't get hammered and it could be a tricky night for the Citizens.

Agreed with you @StevieDay1983!

Considering the Asian Handicap, the it is the best option. Lyon are strong at home, this season only Nice was able to get away with three points. Yet as you say it is unknown how Manchester City will perform with the many expected changes, maybe some youngster or non-regular substitute might take the chance and shine, but that is difficult.

For the rest of Tuesday matches, I might consider a double  as the individual odds are low:

Valencia + 2 AH (1.37)

PSG will strive for the victory, but I do not see an Valencia side that is improving lossing by more than 1 goal, at least in two goals it would be a refund.

TSG Hoffenheim vs Shakthar - BTTS (1.45)

Either side that losses this game will be eliminated from next stage, or if Lyon got is way against Man City.

Still not is lost as the third place gets Europa League. therefore there is no other thing for either team that go out to take the game and that means goals will come.

For  double at 1.98

An important game in London's "Wembley" between Tottenham and Inter, since the English have four points and the Italians three above. This means that Tottenham Hotspur will be the winner of the race and will win with high hopes of qualifying. The "wreaths" will find their chances in the match and many goals
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs INTER MILANO @@ +2.50 Over, odds 1.65

An important match with a high degree of interest, may qualify today. I expect the two teams to give it all for the win and it will become a very beautiful game, they will have world-class players and one goal will soon change the balances, I expect open match with many goals
PARIS SAINT GERMAIN vs LIVERPOOL FC @@ +2.50 Over, odds 1.50

Borussia Dortmund - Club Brugge

First i wanted to stay away, from this... cause of the fact, that one point will be enough for Dortmund, to go through the Group Stage.... but yeah...
I am sure, they want to get the first place from Atletico Madrid and that would only be possible, with a win...
Currently Dortmund is in heaven really... it looks good in the Bundes league and Champions League.... no injuries also... and last but not least... they play at home here...
Indeed, nothing speaks against another win.... for Dortmund...

For sure, not the form of their opponents either, they have lost their last two league games which you dont see often usually.... so it seems, they have some kind of problems...
They were able, to beat Monaco, with 0:4, which was a big success... even considering the current form, of Monaco...
Another problem for Brugge here, is the current fact, that they have alot of players, who are very doubtful... for this game... 7 or 8 players.... are not really ready here, due small injuries

Anyway.... conclusion....

Atletico Madrid - Monaco

Diego Simeone's men are clear favourites against the bottom side in Group A yet we should not expect them to run riot at the Wanda Metropolitano.
One of the biggest surprises in last season's Champions League saw Atletico Madrid fail to get out of the group stages. This year, though, Diego Simeone's men are in a strong position to make sure they qualify for the last 16 and Los Rojiblancos will book their place in the knockout stages with a win over Monaco.

The Ligue 1 side have been in disastrous form this term and head to the Spanish capital second bottom of the French top flight, whilst they are also bottom of Group A after picking up just one point from a possible 12.

Diego Costa is a doubt for the hosts after coming off at the weekend against Barcelona with a knock. Uruguayan centre-back pairing Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez both missed the draw with the Catalans, although the latter has a chance of returning on Wednesday.

Monaco have endured a whole host of injury problems this season, although they were boosted by the return of Radamel Falcao at the weekend and the Colombian should be fit to face his former club.

There is little to make us oppose a home win, with Atletico clearly a superior outfit to a struggling Monaco.
The hosts won 2-1 in France back on matchday one and in the 13 matches they have played since then, they have suffered just one defeat. Atleti should win on Wednesday yet, most of their victories come in relatively low scoring games. In 23 of the 26 matches they have won in their new stadium, fewer than four goals have been scored, with Atleti failing to score more than three goals in any of their last 18 matches in all competitions.

Tottenham vs Inter Milan

It's another crunch game in the Champions League for Tottenham tonight as they take on Inter Milan in an 8pm kick-off at Wembley. A win is an absolute necessity for Spurs if they are to maintain realistic hopes of qualifying for the last 16 of this competition.

Tottenham have started to improve over the past few weeks. It has still been one of their best ever starts to a season but, despite this, Mauricio Pochettino has still come under fire for not being closer to Manchester City in the league and dropping valuable points in the Champions League group phase.

Inter Milan find themselves in second place heading into this game. A 2-1 win over Tottenham in the reverse fixture included two goals in the last few minutes of the game. Their only dropped points in the group so far have been a draw and defeat to group leaders Barcelona.

Pochettino was almost left in a quandary with recent starting revelation Juan Foyth not eligible to play tonight after being left out of the initial Champions League 25-man squad. Fortunately, Jan Vertonghen has recovered from his injury so should be fit to start. A change to the defensive line for a game like this is never the best thing to endure.

Tottenham have a great recent record against Inter Milan at home in European competition. They have played the Italian side twice in the past few years before on home turf and won both times. The 2010/11 fixture was when Gareth Bale famously burst onto the big stage by destroying Maicon down that one flank to gift Spurs with a 3-1 win. They then won again in 2012/13 Europa League with a 3-0 score-line.

Inter Milan have never managed to keep a clean sheet in their last 5 previous meetings with Tottenham. On the flip side, they have only failed to score once. It is also interesting to note that the home side has won those past 5 encounters between the two teams.

Pochettino's men need to win this game otherwise they are eliminated. I can see this being a motivator for them. They have been superb in domestic action lately and with Harry Kane scoring 13 goals in his last 14 Champions League appearances he's certainly worth backing as an anytime scorer in a Spurs win.
