StevieDay1983
Here are the odds and ratings for the weekend fixtures in Ligue 1 and 2. A lot to ponder. No midweek Ligue 2 games so fire away on those tips but Ligue 1 has a midweek schedule so feel free to make some early calls and then some re-adjusted decisions based on the midweek action. StevieDay1983
St Etienne vs Monaco Something strange is happening in Ligue 1 in the early stages of this season and it is the fact that perennial title challengers Monaco are experiencing a diabolical start to their season. This weekend they travel to St Etienne for a 7:45pm kick-off this Friday night at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. St Etienne are a team that are a work-in-progress. Their 7th placed finish last season saw them miss out on a Europa League spot by just 1 point. This season, it's clear that Jean-Louis Gasset has set them a target of going one better. The team currently sits in 6th place in Ligue 1 with just one defeat so far this season. It's a slightly more grim picture for Monaco. Last season's runners up are lingering in 18th place with just 1 win in the league this season. The three defeats they have suffered in their opening six matches is 50% of the total amount of losses they experienced last season. Leonardo Jardim has some serious issues to address and time is running out to find solutions. On the plus side, Monaco are not getting turned over easily. They have either drawn or lost games by a single goal since their opening day victory away to Nantes. It feels like it's only a matter of time before the wins start coming but will it happen at a stadium where the hosts have been so solid at home? I think St Etienne will smell blood here and there's obviously something fundamentally wrong with Monaco. I'm swaying towards a draw but the home side will be going for the win and it would be foolish to rule that out. Neither team has the best of defences so goals could fly in.
